Congratulations
The Special Goodness Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, I see you finally left the world
You lived in far behind and far away
And I see you finally reached the place you felt
You had to go but tell me something

Does it fulfill you like you thought or is it time to change again?
I can't believe you're satisfied
With your lame achievement!
Though it's nice to make believe but not for me

Well they're working all for you
You tell them what to do
And say to fit your vision
Well, you better hope it works

'Cause there's a line of jerks
Who wait to tell you something
How does it feel to have control of everything
That's meaningless?

I can't believe you're satisfied
With your lame achievement!
Though it's nice to make believe
But not for me

Of course I'll come to celebrate
When they say your over
With the ones who are relieved
'Cause we've suffered for so long

I think we've had enough

Overall Meaning

The Special Goodness's song Congratulations is a track that reflects on the excitement and anticipation of the new beginnings that comes with change. In the first stanza, the song acknowledges that the subject has left the world they used to live in and moved on to another place, one that they have been looking forward to, but questions whether the new situation they are in is fulfilling what they expected or if it's time to change paths again. The chorus conveys a complete lack of admiration for the subject, pointing out that their cheap achievements are insignificant and not worth celebrating. The second stanza starts by describing the people working for the subject and following his every command, which can be interpreted as either an allusion to powerful authority or a sarcastic depiction of the sidekicks. The song concludes by expressing a sense of longing for the end of the subject's reign and celebrating the release from being under his control.

Overall, Congratulations represents a beautiful combination of criticism, sarcasm, and optimism. The lyrics go beyond its seemingly simple message and successfully convey messages of hope through change while still emphasizing that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
