Ride Like The Wind
The Starlite Orchestra & Singers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics are portraying the emotions of a woman who is confused and hurt when her lover abruptly ends their relationship. The opening lines suggest that the two had just watched a movie, and the woman feels uneasy about the man's silence and distance. She reminisces about how he used to be different, more carefree, and lively. The metaphor used to describe him as being lost in a crowd suggests that the woman is slowly losing touch with him. Though he has a gentle side that is not evident, he is cold and indifferent towards her, and it hurts her deeply. The lyrics indicate that she is in love with him, but he does not reciprocate her feelings.

The second part of the lyrics talks about how the woman comes across a horoscope in a gossip magazine that predicts that it is time to give up on a relationship. This horoscope applies to her as she starts overthinking and worrying about her relationship, fearing that it has run its course. She feels anxious and restless, especially when she hears the man utter the words 'goodbye' at the subway entrance. She is unable to think of a clever response and feels a chill run down her spine. The song concludes by acknowledging that she is alone and only her love for him remains.
