1) a three-member folk-rock band from the UK.
Emily, Jessica, and Camilla Staveley-Taylor have been making music together since they were children, growing up in Watford, UK, England. Brought up in a house that echoed to the sounds of Simon & Garfunkel, Crosby, Stills & Nash and The Beatles, singing in perfect 3-part harmony came naturally to these three sisters.Having started gigging in local pubs and cafes, The Staves are now captivating audiences on much bigger stages - earning rapturous encores with their exquisite songs of love & longing. Guaranteed to give you goosebumps, their extraordinary intertwining voices melt the most cynical of hearts. The Staves' Mexico EP will be released later this year via Atlantic Records.

2) a baroque pop band from NYC.
"Simple, yet intellectually challenging. Gloomy, yet beautiful. Artistically sophisticated, yet starkly presented...." (Indie-music.com)
"There are very few artists that consistently give me goosebumps. New York's Soren Anders [of The Staves] positively fits within this elite category. Over the last year, his stunning vocals and heartbreakingly beautiful melodies have won me over in a major way...." (The Music Slut Blog)

Horizons
The Staves Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Set it on, set it on,
Set it on.
Two-point-five to the horizon,
Set it off, set it on,
Set it off, set it on.
Oh you know you're solid ground,
And oh, I want to shut it down,
And jack it in,
And where do I go, where do I go, where do I go,
When I want to shut it down,
When I want to shut it down.
And I see the weight fall down,
It's rising up to hit the ground,
And save something for yourself.
Oh it's a ride on,
Set it on, set it on,
Set it on.
Two-point-five to the horizon,
Set it off, set it on,
Set it off, set it on.
My soft ground, (it's paper thin),
It feels so paper thin, (jack it in),
Where do I go, where do I go, where do I go,
When I want to shut it down,
(All I really wanna do is shut it down, jack it in)
And I see the weight fall down,
It's rising up to hit the ground,
And save something for yourself.
It's a ride on,
Set it on, set it on,
Set it on.
Two-point-five to the horizon,
Set it off, set it on,
Set it off, set it on.
The song "Horizons" by The Staves is about the feeling of uncertainty and wanting to escape from the struggles of life. The lyrics suggest a sense of desperation to get away from the current situation to a place where one can find peace. The repetition of the phrase "set it on" represents the desire to move forward and leave their current circumstances behind. The intensity of the lyrics "My soft ground, it feels so paper thin, jack it in" suggest a vulnerability that the singer feels towards their present life. The chorus "Two-point-five to the horizon" and "set it off, set it on" communicates the eagerness of the singer to start anew.
Furthermore, the lyrics "And I see the weight fall down, It's rising up to hit the ground, And save something for yourself," implies that the singer recognizes the negative impact of their actions on their life and wants to save something that is precious to them. The song communicates the message of finding hope and taking action to create a better life.
