Never Know
The Verses Lyrics

And it's done and dusted, put away
Oh, it'll be like before
When I never had seen your face
Just like I never knew
I never knew your face
It's like I never knew
Well I got my pick of fresh love
And drinks to drown myself in
But I just can't seem to shake certain longing from under my skin
My skin
Oh and my bones, they know I'm holding out
My bones, they know I'm holding out
Oh and my bones know I'm waiting for this familiar feeling to begin
Oh it's like I never knew
I never knew your face
Like I never knew
I never knew your face
Now the hard work's over
And all we've gotta do is wait
Just wait
For it to be like before
When I never had seen your face
The Verses's song Never Know is a introspective and reflective piece about love, loss, and the struggle to move on. The lyrics focus on the aftermath of a breakup and the challenge of trying to forget and move on from a past love. The first set of lyrics describe the feeling of finally putting the hard work of moving on behind and stowing it away. It suggests that with time, things will go back to the way they were before the relationship began, and that maybe the singer will go back to the time before they met their lover, indicating that the beginning of a relationship might have brought them undesired pain. The chorus "It's like I never knew, I never knew your face" emphasizes the feeling of detachment and makes it seem like memories associated with the past relationship have been erased.
The second verse depicts the singer trying to find solace and comfort in new things the world has to offer like love and alcohol. However, he is unable to shake the longing he feels for his ex-partner. He is holding out, waiting for this familiar feeling to come back. It is as though he's afraid of the new love or even, he might be keeping his ex-lover with experience in mind. That, perhaps, the new love cannot be compared to the experiences in the past after-all. He is waiting for something but it isn't made clearly stated. It is understood that perhaps it is the feeling he is waiting for. The song ends with the hope that one day, the singer would feel like the past never happened.

I’m transcended into my childhood when we fell asleep listening to the platters on the old telefunken gramophone. Such awesome melodies.
