They appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone in October 2002 (the first Australian band to do so since Men at Work in 1983) with the words "Rock is Back: meet the Vines" boldly emblazoned underneath. Referred to as the 'The' bands, The Strokes, The Hives, The White Stripes and The Vines combined "old fashioned punk and adrenaline fuelled riffs" to be ushered in at the beginning of 2002 as the "saviors of rock".
The Vines have been moderately successful in the Australian recording industry, winning an ARIA in 2002 for Breakthrough Artist and receiving nominations for six other awards in as many years. In 2003, their debut album Highly Evolved went double platinum in their home country of Australia, and since then the band has released six albums and a "Best-Of" compilation from their time at Capitol Records.
The band started to record their 5th album in February 2010. The album recording was completely finished in mid March, with mixing taking place in Sydney at the end of March and mastering taking place in early April. The album, "Future Primitve," was released in June 2011.

The Vines Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to The Vines's song TV Pro seems to be a commentary on celebrity culture and the obsession with fame. The first line, "See the late night talk show guest professional," is referencing the typical guests on late-night talk shows, who are often celebrities promoting their latest project. The use of the word "professional" implies that these guests are experts in their field of entertainment, but it also hints at the artificiality of their appearances, as if they are performing a scripted role.
The next two lines, "A movie star and some kind of telectual. He's a she 'cause she's got more obsessional," continue to play with the idea of artificiality and gender roles. The term "telectual" may be a playful, made-up word combining "intellectual" with "television," or it could be a reference to the pretentiousness of some celebrity interviews. The line "He's a she" suggests that gender roles are not necessarily fixed, and that the concept of gender may be up for interpretation.
The final two lines, "'Cause whenever I get uptight know you will. See the late night talk show guest I guess you will. A movie star is some kind of telectual," tie the song together with a sense of anxiety and anticipation. The repetition of "know you will" implies that the singer is seeking comfort or reassurance in the face of the relentless celebrity culture. Overall, the song showcases The Vines's knack for catchy, melodic rock, while also packing in some thought-provoking lyrics.
