In 1995, the band added keyboardist Jeff Pedersen as an official member and signed with MCA/Way Cool Music. After two albums with MCA/Way Cool Music, the band and label parted ways, after which the band independently released a live album and one final studio album before breaking up in mid-2000.
Since the breakup, the band has gotten back together several times to perform occasional "reunion" shows, but have no plans to regroup permanently.
Lead singer Chris Shaffer put together a new band for a few years, Shaffer Street, releasing two albums; he also toured as a solo artist, releasing two solo albums. Michael David Smith, Greg Gardner, & Charlie Bushor formed Lost In Lodi, playing shows around the midwest as well.
Since 2007, Chris has been touring with a new version of The Why Store which includes no other original members and in March 2009 rereleased his most recent solo album, VIM, as a Why Store album.
Their catalog consists of six studio albums and a double live album:
Welcome to the Why Store (1993)
Inside the Why Store (1994)
The Why Store (1996)
Two Beasts (1998)
Live at Midnight (1999)

Good To Me
The Why Store Lyrics

Would it be good to you?
Would it be good to me?
Would it be good to you?
I want the world turning over for me
I want everything I could ever be
Would you feel me in the firey depths of hell?
Would you call me to come and then bid me farewell?
Would you call me inside, oh ask me to stay?
Would it be good to me?
Would it be good to you?
Would it be good to me?
Would it be good to you?
So there you go, turning my world around
What will it show, keeping your feet on the ground
If I asked you to stay, would you plead me to go?
Would you find me a way to let happiness show?
Would you bleed for me, bleed for me or turn it away?
Would you look to the stars and let come what may?
Would it be good to me?
Would it be good to you?
Would it be good to me?
Would it be good to you?
Thrown away, the tears of life
We've thrown away, the fear inside
For when it's good to you
It is good to me
Would it be good to me?
Would it be good to you?
Would it be good to me?
Would it be good to you?
The lyrics to "Good To Me" by The Why Store depict a yearning for a deep and meaningful connection with someone. The repeated question of "Would it be good to me? Would it be good to you?" reflects a desire for reciprocity and equality in a relationship. The lyrics also touch on themes of perseverance and sacrifice, as seen in lines such as "Would you bleed for me, bleed for me or turn it away?" and "If I asked you to stay, would you plead me to go?"
The second verse introduces the idea of dreams and aspirations, with the question "Would you dream up a dream and then wake up the next day?" possibly alluding to the fear of unfulfilled potential. The bridge of the song breaks away from the questions and instead sets a hopeful and optimistic tone, stating that when it is good for one person, it is good for both.
