Another Day
The Wings & Paul McCartney Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Every day she takes a morning bath she wets her hair
Wraps a towel around her as she's heading for the bedroom chair
It's just another day
Slipping into stockings, stepping into shoes
Dipping in the pocket of her raincoat
It's just another day
At the office where the papers grow she takes a break
Drinks another coffe and she finds it hard to stay awake
It's just another day

Do do do do do do, it's just another day
Do do do do do do, it's just another day

So sad, so sad
Sometimes she feels so sad
Alone in her apartment she'd dwell
Till the man of her dreams come to break the spell
Ah, stay, don't stand her up
And he comes and he stays but he leaves the next day
So sad
Sometimes she feels so sad

As she posts another letter to the sound of five
People gather 'round her and she finds it hard to stay alive
It's just another day

Do do do do do do, it's just another day
Do do do do do do, it's just another day

So sad, so sad
Sometimes she feels so sad
Alone in her apartment she'd dwell
Till the man of her dreams come to break the spell
Ah, stay, don't stand her up
And he comes and he stays but he leaves the next day
So sad
Sometimes she feels so sad

Every day she takes a morning bath she wets her hair
Wraps a towel around her as she's heading for the bedroom chair
It's just another day
Slipping into stockings, stepping into shoes
Dipping in the pocket of her raincoat
It's just another day

Do do do do do do, it's just another day
Do do do do do do, it's just another day

Overall Meaning

The Wings’ “Another Day” is a melancholic song that depicts the mundane routine of an unknown woman’s everyday life. The song’s opening lines set the scene for the song - the woman takes a morning bath, wraps a towel around herself, and heads to a chair in her bedroom. She slips into her stockings, steps into shoes, and dips into her raincoat’s pocket. The lyrics “it’s just another day” is repeated several times throughout the song, emphasizing the woman’s life’s mundanity. The lyrics also suggest that the woman’s life is devoid of excitement, passion, or even a significant purpose.

In the second verse, the lady’s life becomes even more profound. She drinks coffee at the office, and it becomes challenging to stay awake during the day. In the bridge, the song takes a more pathetic tone. The woman feels so lonely that she dwells in her apartment until the man of her dreams comes to break the spell. However, the man always leaves the next day, leaving her feeling sad and alone once again. The last verse of the song echoes the opening verse, emphasizing the sameness and mundanity of her life and ending the song.

That guy is so creative. Melodies and lyrics that others would dream of producing seem to flow effortlessly from him.

I am so glad that Paul worked with Linda on these songs. Her voice was just lovely on all of their work.

@debbiesims138

I like listening to this because Linda sounds so good.

@Jhensy2012

She got so much crap thrown at her for years -- mostly because the world wanted to see Paul with the Beatles, not her -- but all these years later her harmony vocals sound great.

I’ve heard her voice isolated from the other vocals. It wasn’t pleasant. With the magic of electrics, they made it beautiful.
But it never affected my thoughts. If she made Paul happy, I didn’t give a rats ass about all the critics.

@jeffsnyder3161

@@swtbbyjms3806 well here we are into opinions, and that is OK. I have heard her voice isolated right here on YT as well and ...... she is on pitch without autotune, and sounds very nice and sweet. To you it wasn't pleasant, and to me it is. :)

@petersonlafollette3521

Their voices blended well together. Paul's photos here capture
a sunny eyed soul- he had good reason to go south, but reached
deep musically to get a BIG second wind.

Linda doesn't get enough credit for her beautiful iconic vocal harmonies.
