I have listened to the commentary and read the comments but feel that we have missed an important lesson. these men left home, family to embark on a long, expensive and possibly dangerous journey....why.... to worship the Christ child. they brought gifts fit for a king. and after they left Herod, and saw the star again, they rejoiced. Makes me think about our comfort zone (and mine too)....Some of us will not go across town to worship, we will not share our finances to worship or fall down to worship the Child. Makes me think.

My best reading on these men were that they were very educated for their time, that they studied much more than just astrology, and that they had good communication with each other. Otherwise seeing that they lived in separate lands, how did they manage to see the sign, assemble together and travel together for this fortuitous event?

Truly these men were the keepers of the torch of knowledge. I love it when they tell Herod "you are not the true king we seek." Seems the Magi's particulars are of more historic interest than are the gifts they brought. And more-- why they were brought in the first place. The "why" is the matter of importance. We quibble about who's right and who's wrong, and miss the whole reason, the astounding significance, of the revolutionary arrival.

Excellent teaching. Also if they came from Babylon they may have known the book of Daniel and could calculate the 70 X 7 prophesy. Then they could have known that Messiah would be cut off in the 483rd year subtracting 30 years for the age of a new priest. The star was their verification of that year.

Three men coming across the desert are in danger of bandits, horrific dust storms and wild animals, they would have a hard time. At some point they would have been alone because they had to meet with each other or take the entire trip alone.They would have needed guards, pack animals, food, water and a guide. If they passed through hostile land they would have to pay off the owner.
I am writing a book about these men and have done lot of research, it was not a walk in the park.

There could have been 300 wise men. I like to think of them, filled with the wisdom of Persia and Babylon, with Chaldean astronomy still preserved on clay tablets. In the Islamic world guided tour at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan there is an ancient astrolabe. It has disks for each major Mideast city, which show how to navigate across the desert using the stars to each city. The bones of prehistoric camels have been found in the arctic. They were huge, though of course, long gone before the magi.

Good presentation. She is right on these points. We don't know how many, where they came from, or who they were. We do know this. It was not on "Christmas night" on December 25. Jesus was already 2 years old when they arrived. And yes, they did follow a "star." (Probably the star of Revelation 12, the merger of the planets.)

The book of Isaiah is a prophetic book about the millennial kingdom of Yahusha Jesus when Israel is lifted up from among all nations. You can’t just lift snippets of verses from it and allude it to the birth of the Messiah. You have to read the whole chapter (60:1-22) to understand that Isaiah did not write it for his time, or to prophesy the birth of Jesus. He was talking about the regathering of Israel. All the verses are intertwined with each other that chopping it up or going back and forth will totally confuse whoever is watching the video.

As of now...the Bethlehem star (star which was visible on Christs birth) was first seen when "Abraham" son "Isaac" was born 4000 yrs ago in Israel. 2000 yrs later after the birth of "Isaac" the same star appeared when Lord Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem which embarked the journey of the Three wise Kings to the Nativity scene. When the kings reached Jerusalem the star had been Disappeared. So the kings went to the king of Jerusalem i.e Herod to enquire abt the Birth.which he clearly had no idea. So the kings stayed there for months waiting for the star to reappear that took them to the exact location of Christ birth. Jesus Christ was already 2 yrs old when the three kings visited him.

I really do like this video a lot, but I don't think they said somebody's got to do it, why not us. I think God put it in their hearts from long before they ever realized what their ultimate part in this would be.

I did extensive research on this when I made my video "The Grinch and the Manger" , available on YouTube. The most likely scenario is that the Magi came from Persia. The so called Star of David led them from Jerusalem to Bethlehem. Those two cities are less than 5 miles apart, so whatever it was, it flew at low altitude because an actual star would look exactly the same at either location.

If they were so literate in the scriptures, why did they not get that it was Bethlehem? The pharisees had to tell them at the palace of Herod. I believe, they weren't Jewish but for some reason they knew that the star (astrology) was somehow telling about an important king. Otherwise nobody would walk this far and long to worship that king. They also quite reasonably would not habe travelled alone but with a whole caravan I believe. That is why all of Jerusalem noticed their arrival. To me they're still a mystery but I love the symbolism of their gifts and I love their sincere hearts. There's a lot to take from this story.

I see something different going on, the magi was a priestly order in the Persian empire, it went from father to son like the Levites, they were interpreters of dreams, basically astrology, the gifts represent Jesus as king, priest, the frankensence was used for incence in the temple for priestly work, the mure was used in those days as embalming fragrance dealing with the dead, these magi were not Kings but did apoint the king's in persia as part of their priestly duty's, so the gifts point strongly to christ, sounds strange coming from a source outside gods people but 600 years earlier a Hebrew man was placed over their order by the king, they tried to have him killed but the Lions were calmed by the Lord, I've been reading this story as containing a message from Daniel through the centuries through loyal members of the magi.

@short videos with what I understand about the history of Islam, mahhamad was witness to idolatry within the Christian churches, the statues of Mary and symbolism of saints and the like, I agree that looks bad, it seems his perspective of the Trinity was Jesus and Mary and the father, you should look into the Co regent model in ancient belief, look up the two powers in heaven, Jesus isn't a man that became equal with the father, he is the same nature that became man to redeem man, this idea predates Islam by thousands of years, it's embedded in Genesis and fleshed out in the new testament, look at the akedah, god says he himself would be the sacrifice, it really comes down to what you would accept as inspired scripture

@short videos I've been fascinated how similar Islam is to Mormonism outside of the nature of god, in Islam it's strictly monotheist, in Mormonism it's very polytheist, the story is almost exactly the same, mahamad was more successful at implementing his ideas, Joseph Smith was deeply flawed as a person and got killed, the culture didn't accept his ideas as well either cause he didn't have a big enough army, both belief systems come alot later than the Bible and for me have to be judged in light of the previous revelation, I don't know near as much about Islam as I do Mormonism, but the similarity's are interesting just looking at it through history, I see the triune nature of god revealed in the old testament and more clearly in the new, im not sure what you accept as inspired scripture besides the Qur'an, could you point me to some relevant sura's (hope that's the right term) I have a English Qur'an but haven't read very much of it yet.

The Magi would very likely have had the book of Daniel, so would have known when to look as well,
“Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing.

The magi from the east were from the same order in which the prophet Daniel belonged to. Remember that in Babylon during the time of captivity, Daniel rose to become the chief magus of the king's court. He also prophesied the exact timing of the coming of the Messiah (Daniel 9:25-27) and counted how many years still to come. After the captivity, Daniel was one of the Jews who remained behind. I think we can safely deduce that he continued the order and passed on the secret of when is the Messiah coming in Jerusalem and instructed the next generations of magi to prepare for it and go to Jerusalem when the time has come. So the worship and homage that the magi from the east gave to Jesus was indirectly came from the prophet Daniel.

Herod took them in his palace which indicates too, that they were Jews. The word star in Greek can also be translated Angel which makes more logic as to how a star could lead them 500 miles from Babylon to a specific house in Bethlehem.

Daniel was a Eunuch 600 years prior to Yeshua's birth. Daniel was in charge of the Magi, Royal Visors, Counselors, the Governors of all Provinces, and quite possibly, by one of the possible definitions of his Chaldean name Belshazzar, he may have been keeper of all foreign treasures of the King. He would have shared about the Salvation of Yahovah and other visions, which were sealed, with his Magi and they would eagerly look forward to the Revelation 12 Great Sign of the Son of Man. Being the Second in command under three Kings, Daniel would accrue great wealth but have no posterity to inherit it. The Magi would deliver the inheritance to Young Yeshua on the eve of his flight into Egypt. The Magi could not have arrived before Messiah's dedication at the Temple, because the Dedication and redemption of the first born male requirement of a male ram of the first year or two turtle doves if impoverished was met by the latter.
