The Witch
The X-Men Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hammer in the nails into the palm of the hand that feeds
I'm a tumor upon your flesh I'm waiting to plant the seed
Bred to serve when you thin the herd it's homegrown morality
Your faith is unstable around the dinner table it's the values of a family
I'll grow beneath your skin
I felt my own malice now I'm starting to twitch
A misfit toy you cannot fix
Look upon your son and see a wicked little witch
A wicked little witch
The ideologies you live by they just contradict
You cannot love everyone and be capitalist
You have a disease you cannot treat it's called consumerism
Blind obedience and ignorance are the symptoms
I'll grow beneath your skin
I felt my own malice now I'm starting to twitch
A misfit toy you cannot fix
Look upon your son and see a wicked little witch
A wicked little witch
You planted the seed
Watered it with gasoline
Yet you wonder why I'm unclean
Drawn to the obscene
I'll grow beneath your skin
I felt my own malice now I'm starting to twitch
A misfit toy you cannot fix

Look upon your son and see a wicked little witch
A wicked little witch

Overall Meaning

In "The Witch" by The X-Men, the lyrics paint a dark and unsettling picture of a protagonist who feels like an outcast in a society governed by contradicting ideologies and flawed belief systems. The opening lines, "Hammer in the nails into the palm of the hand that feeds, I'm a tumor upon your flesh I'm waiting to plant the seed," convey a sense of rebellion and a desire to subvert the established order. The singer sees themselves as a disruptive force, ready to challenge the status quo.

The song highlights the hypocrisy and instability of the prevailing moral values, particularly within a family unit. The line, "Your faith is unstable around the dinner table it's the values of a family," suggests a loss of faith and trust in traditional familial structures. The singer feels like an outsider, growing beneath the surface, with a sense of malice and a desire for change.

The lyrics also criticize the capitalist system and its inherent contradictions. The line, "You cannot love everyone and be capitalist," suggests a conflict between the values of compassion and empathy versus the pursuit of profit and individual gain. Consumerism is portrayed as a disease, with blind obedience and ignorance as its symptoms.

As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the singer's descent into darkness and rebellion is a reaction to the environment in which they were raised. The line, "You planted the seed, watered it with gasoline, yet you wonder why I'm unclean, drawn to the obscene," implies that the society itself played a role in shaping this wicked little witch.

@Axviel actually none of those r true.

First of all she didn't summon Dormammu, it was an illusion and Dr.Strange counters it with his Eye of Agamotto. And why r u mentioning HoM Wanda?

That was not Wandas power. She was being controlled by 1rst Chthon and in the retcon Life Force. They granted her unlimited power and reality warping.

It is like always bringing Dark Phoenix whenever people talk about Jean. It's not fair.

And second, she defeated Chthon in Darkhold Omega due to prep, and she had to absorb the Darkhold itself in order to absorb Chthon.

Does this make her overpowered? Yes. But Jean is an Omega level mutant. There is no upper limit to her power. There isn't a psychic more powerful than her.

Ans u just assumed that Wanda has high resistance to telepathy after absorbing Chthon. But isn't true. And even if she does, that doesn't stop Jean from mind raping her

Am I the only one who thinks it's weird that her hex energy was blue instead of red?

Schlock Jocks

They wanted her powers to not blend too much with her clothes. The Blue/Red contrast stands out better

Caramelo Nordestino

É pq essa Wanda é de outro universo

Inigo Errandonea

Probably because her powers would look exactly the same as Rogues

Rabia Alban

Yeah I didn’t really like that aspect also preferred the more classic crowned design

Imagine if Apocalypse had supercharged Wanda instead of Magneto. She would've gone from Scarlet Witch to Scarlet Goddess.

@ACE ACE Actually there is many Wanda but one Scarlet Witch
