Better Than Me
The Youth Ahead Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When everything is falling down around me and
My life's a big ol pile of shit
I can't do anything right no more
Bad luck's my middle name, what's yours?
I bet it's doing better than me
Sometimes you gotta think that things will get better
But when you're down, just think of me
You're probably nowhere near 23
Believe me when I say that you'll be fine
Cause you're probably doing better than me
You're probably doing better than me
You're probably doing better than me
You're probably doing better than me
The Youth Ahead's song Better Than Me touches on feelings of inadequacy, hopelessness, and self-doubt, while also providing listeners with words of encouragement. The lyrics convey a sense of frustration and despair, as the singer laments about the difficulties and setbacks in their life. The lines "My life's a big ol pile of shit / I can't do anything right no more" reflect the singer's low self-esteem and negative self-talk. The refrain "You're probably doing better than me" highlights the singer's sense of feeling left behind or not measuring up to others, while also telling the listener that they are not alone in their struggles.
The verse "When everything seems so hard at times / But when you're down, just think of me / You're probably nowhere near 23 / Believe me when I say that you'll be fine" provides a glimmer of hope, suggesting that things will improve, and that the listener is not alone in their struggles. The reference to age is significant because it suggests that the struggles of youth will eventually dissipate, and that age and experience can bring resilience and coping mechanisms. The overall message of the song is that everyone goes through tough times, but eventually, things will get better.

Just got off a cruise (Edge) last week. It had about 780 passengers. Capacity is, I think, about 3800. Masks were inconvenient, but apparently there were only two (2) positive tests onboard for the week. The cruise was exceptional, even with the protocols.
If vaccinations/testing were not required, that number (this is real science/epidemiology, not TV 'news' crap) would most certainly have been much higher. I don't think the ships medical facility could handle 30 or 40 serious cases, which the vaccines/boosters (again, real peer reviewed science) help prevent. There was a section of the ship that was 'off limits' - and it was supposed that was the quarantine section. I didn't ask and was not interested.
The big question is whether or not the cruise industry is willing to risk having a large load of folks quarantined and/or sick onboard. As a business, that would be bad, as port restrictions would cause problems for those not infected.
Maybe a line should have some 'non vaxxed' cruises, where folks have the option to spread/catch disease... and if that proves not to be a problem, let that model spread. Which cruise line volunteers to be first? <....crickets....>
So, for now, until it can be scientifically shown that it is safe to cruise on a ship full of vulnerable folks (sorry, that's the unvaccinated), I will continue to only cruise on ships that require vaccinations (and boosters DO help prevent serious disease, contrary to folklore.)
BTW - it was a GREAT cruise, fabulous ship, and the crew was most wonderful - I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

I’ll go again once the mandates are dropped. Don’t like leaving the fate of my cruise in the hands of a Covid test
DME
True. I was nervous as hell one of my family members would test positive two days before the cruise.

I would not cruise if boosters are required. If they removed the two dose vaccinated requirement I would still cruise.💋
Cathy Elizabeth
I would cruise without the mandates, no booster for me though.

Being already vaxed and boosted, that doesn't bother me. The biggest problem with cruising now is the negative test requirements before the cruise. It's a pain having to worry about that along with all the packing and stuff you have to do. Cruised in December, going this month, and another in June.
Mark Garr
Yes, I’d cruise. Got the two shots, second shot caused heart damage, then caught COVID while in hospital for my heart. Medically cannot get boosted.
Pamela Greenspan
Absolutely will cancel my 6 cruises if the stop testing.

It depends on what the COVID status is, as to whether we would cruise without restrictions. Definitely not anytime soon, though. The the restrictions are all over the place in the US. Too many people are not taking this seriously. My 91 old father lives with us. He has COPD, heart valve and pace maker, so we are not taking chances right now. If I brought COVID into the house and risked his health, I couldn't live with myself.

@Ben10 4K Are you?
Linda Warren
No, I would not stop cruising if they stopped vaccine mandate. I see it the same as all other travel. I have not stopped flying, driving, staying in hotels or visiting casinos, so no, I would not stop cruising. However, if the cruise lines start allowing pets on board in every area, then I’m definitely OUT! I’m allergic and not dealing with all that pet dander.
