Diamondback
The Zilis Lyrics

Can you leave the rest?
There's a skeleton road ahead leading to deliverance
It's a long cold lane
Where the outlaws stray
Babylon, in the bloom of your life
The bright light out of the dark
And it grieves my heart
Set your eyes on the borderline
'Cause you can't go back
No, you can't go back
Tonight
You'll be safe and warm
In my arms I'll hold you tight
And I won't be alone anymore
You're a diamondback
Waiting for your heart attack
Oh, tonight
We'll leave this town behind
So they gave you everything that you wanted before
And they said that you would be all right
That your cards were marked in advance
That you were born to fight
Schemes so grand
Never go as planned
Now the hounds are loose
And they're after you
Tonight
You'll be safe and warm
In my arms I'll hold you tight
And I won't be alone anymore
You're a diamondback
Waiting for your heart attack
Oh, tonight
Tonight
You'll be safe and warm
In my arms I'll hold you tight
And I won't be alone anymore
You're a diamondback
Waiting for your heart attack
Oh, tonight
We'll leave this town behind
The lyrics to The Zilis's song "Diamondback" tell a story of a young person who has taken what they needed from life and now faces a challenging journey ahead. The first verse describes a "skeleton road" leading to deliverance, implying that the path ahead will be difficult and perhaps dangerous. The reference to outlaws suggests that this person is venturing into unknown territory, where they might face challenges and obstacles.
The chorus speaks to the sense of longing and vulnerability that the singer is feeling. They are referred to as a "diamondback," which typically refers to a venomous snake. In this context, it suggests that the person is ready to strike or face their own personal "heart attack" - a moment of intense emotional reckoning. They seek comfort and safety, hoping to escape their current situation and leave their troubles behind.
The second verse alludes to promises that were made to the singer in the past, offering reassurance that everything will be alright. However, these grand schemes have not gone as planned, and now the "hounds" are after them. This could be interpreted as external forces or negative consequences catching up to the singer, highlighting the fleeting nature of the promises made earlier.

There's a skeleton road ahead leading to deliverance
There is a difficult path ahead that leads to salvation
It's a long cold lane
It's a lengthy and harsh path
Where the outlaws stray
Where those who break the rules wander
Babylon, in the bloom of your life
In the prime of your life, like the city of Babylon
The bright light out of the dark
The shining hope that emerges from darkness
But you can't remember the sound of your name
But you have forgotten the essence of your existence
And it grieves my heart
And it saddens me deeply
Set your eyes on the borderline
Focus your attention on the threshold
'Cause you can't go back
Because you cannot return to the past
No, you can't go back
No, it is impossible to go back
Tonight
This evening
You'll be safe and warm
You will be protected and comfortable
In my arms I'll hold you tight
I will embrace you firmly
And I won't be alone anymore
And I will no longer be solitary
You're a diamondback
You are a resilient and dangerous creature
Waiting for your heart attack
Awaiting a sudden and intense emotional event
Oh, tonight
Oh, this evening
We'll leave this town behind
We will abandon this town and move forward
So they gave you everything that you wanted before
So they provided you with all your desires in the past
And they said that you would be all right
And they assured you that you would be fine
That your cards were marked in advance
That your fate was predetermined
That you were born to fight
That you were destined to engage in battles
Schemes so grand
Plans so ambitious
Never go as planned
Rarely unfold as intended
Now the hounds are loose
Now the pursuers are unleashed
And they're after you
And they are chasing you
Tonight
This evening
You'll be safe and warm
You will be protected and comfortable
In my arms I'll hold you tight
I will embrace you firmly
And I won't be alone anymore
And I will no longer be solitary
You're a diamondback
You are a resilient and dangerous creature
Waiting for your heart attack
Awaiting a sudden and intense emotional event
Oh, tonight
Oh, this evening
We'll leave this town behind
We will abandon this town and move forward
