On 17 August 2009, the group released their debut album xx on Young Turks label. The album was recorded in a small garage and produced by the band. It garnered critical acclaim and has been generally well-received, scoring an average of 86/100 based on 24 professional reviews. Also it ranked on "best of the year" lists with Rolling Stone placing it at #9 and NME placing it at #2.
Four singles were released from their debut album: "Crystalised", "Basic Space", "Islands" and "VCR".
The xx also remixed the classic song "You've Got The Love" originally written by The Source and covered by Florence + the Machine. They also added their own vocals on the song. The group won the 2010 Mercury Prize for their album on 7th September 2010. After being the bookies' favourites for many of the weeks leading up to the announcement, they beat eleven other acts.
"Angels" was the first single from The xx’s second album, Coexist. It was released on July 16 2012. A second track from the album, "Chained", was released on line prior to the official Coexist launch on 11 September.
In June 2014, it was revealed in an interview with Dazed that the trio were working on their third studio album, with producer Rodaidh McDonald at the Marfa Recording Company studio in Marfa, Texas. Further writing and recording sessions were held in London, New York, Reykavik and Los Angeles. Reunion
The xx Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Ignore the heart
Move to the ever-moving
Or, blazin', we go over
And over and over and over again
If I wait too long
I'll lose you from my sight
I could stop dreaming
And start believing in forever
And ever and ever and ever again
Reunion, reunion
Reunion, reunion
Never not ever, never not ever again
And it's burning inside 'til you give it up
How long should I wait?
There's no need to hide, from this
Only you in here
There's an end to us with someone else inside
You shine your light
There goes that feeling, won't let me see them
Never not ever, never not ever again
Did I see you, see me, in a new light?
Did I see you, see me, in a new light?
Did I see you, see me, in a new light? (Never not ever again)
Did I (Never not ever) see you (Ever again)
See me (Never not ever) in a new light? (Never not ever again)
Did I see you, see me?
Never not ever, never not ever again
The lyrics to The xx's song Reunion convey a feeling of uncertainty and longing. The song portrays a situation where two people are struggling to reconnect with each other while trying to move forward with their individual lives. The first few lines suggest that the people involved in the reunion are revisiting a previously shared life, yet are ignoring their emotions and moving on with their present lives. The lyrics "Ignore the heart, move to the ever-moving" indicate that they are hesitant to let their emotions guide them and are focused on the pace of the present time.
The chorus of the song, "Reunion, reunion, never not ever, never not ever again," conveys a sense of yearning for a connection that was lost. The repetition of the word "never" highlights how much they desire to not lose touch with each other again. The lyric "If I wait too long, I'll lose you from my sight" highlights how urgent the singer feels the need to reconnect with their counterpart. The lyrics "There's an end to us with someone else inside" suggests that perhaps the disconnection has been caused by changes in their individual lives.
In conclusion, the lyrics of Reunion represent the difficulty in reconciling the past with the present. The song embodies the idea that there's no going back to the way things were, yet despite the change, the desire to rekindle the connection remains.
