After having started a band, winning big competitions, played in small bars and big festivals all over Norway, recorded an EP and started to record an album, she was tired of the cold weather... She left the project, and went traveling. After months in Morocco and Cuba, and years with her suitcase as home, she found her way to Paris. With new songs and influences she finished her album in 2009.
She is now based in France, were the album will be released next spring, touring in Scandinavia and south of Europe. On her travels she has picked up new instruments, and with her on stage she brings different types; ukulele, banjo and mandolin, to piano and accordion. Growing up with rhythm & blues, soul music and world music, she started to create her own thing. She plays acoustic pop, but the influences of music and travels can be heard in her style and lyrics. Her voice can make even the toughest man cry, reaching from the highest to the deepest notes, powerful or soft. Her playfulness in music and her presence on stage gives audience a rare adventure.

Kom inn att i magen
Eg angrar meg so
Alle mine born
Kom inn att i magen
Eg angrar meg so
Te kvar ein so treng
Ja, ta med ein ven
Om da e' da du ve
Eg har strenga' att
Itte dei so glapp
Sudidelidadu
Sudidelidå
Sudidelidadu
Sudidelidå
Sudidelidadu
Sudidelidå
S'ann!
Thea Hjelmeland's song, Born in 2-3, is a hauntingly beautiful and introspective piece that deals with the complexities of motherhood and the emotions that come with it. The lyrics are written in Norwegian, but their essence is universal and can be felt by anyone who has ever taken on the role of a parent.
The first stanza of the song sets the tone, as Thea sings, "All my children/ Came into my womb/ I regret it so." The line may seem jarring at first, but it speaks to the internal struggle that some mothers may face. While many women are overjoyed when they find out they are expecting, others may feel overwhelmed or unsure. Thea's honesty in these lyrics is refreshing and relatable.
The second stanza continues this theme, as Thea sings, "I have a umbilical cord/ For one who needs it/ Yes, bring along a friend/ If that's what you want." It's clear that Thea is reflecting on the decision to have children, and perhaps questioning if she was truly prepared for the responsibility that comes with it. The line "If that's what you want" also speaks to the pressure that some women may feel to have children, even if it isn't something they truly desire.
The chorus of the song is equally haunting, as Thea sings "Sudidelidadu, Sudidelida/ Sudidelidadu, Sudidelida/ S'ann!" The words don't have a clear translation, but they add to the dreamlike quality of the song.
Overall, Born in 2-3 is a deeply emotional and thought-provoking song that explores the nuances of motherhood.
