Morticia is always the cool breeze to Gomez's fire and loves to luxuriate in her undying power over him.

the song is unmistakable, Uncle Fester rising from behind the chair is a thing of brilliance, the snapping is catchy, and Gomez's facial expression is psychotic. The intro is perfect. Then, when many shows would have just used a still image for the outro, they have them staring blankly into the camera, slightly fidgeting the entire time. It's amazing.

You are extremely astute! I too have analyzed this opening and closing and Uncle Fester, rising from behind the chair, was a thing of brilliance and didn't just happen on accident. (I always wondered if anyone else noticed that). If I understood correctly, the interview John Astin has on YouTube, they let Vic Mizzy, the composer, tell everyone what to do for the opening and closing credits because they thought his song beautifully captured essence of show. I LOVE how they have them just staring at you at the ending credits. There are SO many brilliantly funny little things in the show. I crack up when, before Lurch plays his harpsichord, he rubs his fingers together and you hear this sandpaper scratching sound. That sound of Thing's box when it opens and closes is a thing of brilliance. That Gomez's cigars are always lit when he grabs one makes me laugh. I could go on for an hour about how many hysterical things this show did.

This is my all time FAVORITE TV show, I wasn't about/born when it first aired. I had to watch re-runs when it was on TV land. But, I was glad I was able to watch it whenever it did come on. 9/9:30 PM is when it came on when it was on TV land. I was real young when I watched it. Still was in school, too. I begged my mom to let me stay up 'late' on school nights just to watch it. I miss it so much. I am glad that I also have them on DVD.

When I was a kid the televisions were expensive family would have a color TV if you were really lucky a secondary smaller black-and-white TV. When I was a kid I only had a television because I had to fish it out of the garbage and fix it myself.

I was four when The Addams Family first ran, and it was instantly my favorite show. I had such a crush on Carolyn Jones- along with Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady and Diana Rigg on The Avengers. I wanted to be Gomez when I grew up.

I miss when they played this on TVland when they had good shows on, I only watched in on reruns of course. I was about 11 yrs old when I started watching The Addams Family, now I'm almost 30 yrs old, and still obsessed with this amazing TV Series. I have them on DVD & the movies but I prefer the TV series. Even have a T Shirt of them on it & it says Addams Family on the back.

Fun fact. The set this was filmed on was actually really colorful. Since color wasn't exactly a problem since they filmed in black and white anyway but I'm sure they used certain shades of pink and other colors that looked good on film to get a good look

No other version can beat this one( by version i mean those with a new tune entirely). This one doesn't have any chords that make the addams seem creepy or macabre, it just sounds like cheery and normal, and that's the whole point
