(5) New Jersey's Theory began as a basement band by brothers John and Mike Foxworthy (Guitars and Drums respectively), who soon realized their potential as they began playing live. Theory recorded several live tracks, but never made it to the studio to produce an album; however, the live tracks have made their way to the ears of fans across the globe. In 2003 their different interests in the music business drove them to become magazine publishers, publicists and A&R reps. To this day, the music of Theory stands strong as an example of great hybrid metal.

Theory Lyrics

It's what you asked for
We're past best before
One foot out the door
Sold my soul for a packet of
The same old habits
Masquerade
This grenade
That you made
God damn it
All the same
Cloak and veil
A parade in traffic
Sold my soul for a packet of
The same old habits
It's a shame that I crave this damage
Masquerade
This grenade
That you made
God damn it
All the same
Cloak and veil
A parade in traffic
Twisting the truth
Maligned wasted youth
Scorned and uncouth
Still long in the tooth
Sold my soul for a packet of
The same old habits
It's a shame that I crave this damage
Masquerade
This grenade
That you made
God damn it
All the same
Cloak and veil
A parade in traffic
Sold my soul for a packet of
The same old habits
It's a shame that I crave this damage
Masquerade
This grenade
That you made
God damn it
All the same
Cloak and veil
A parade in traffic
Sold my soul for a packet of
The same old habits
It's a shame that I crave this damage
Masquerade

Death comes to all
It's what you asked for
These lyrics from Theory's song "Sex" explore themes of self-destructive behavior, addiction, and the consequences that come with indulging in such habits.
The line "Death comes to all, it's what you asked for" suggests that the singer is aware of the destructive path they are on and that they have willingly chosen it. They have embraced a lifestyle that leads to their own downfall. This could be interpreted as a reflection on the consequences of their actions or a commentary on society's fascination with dangerous and reckless behavior.
The repetition of "Sold my soul for a packet of the same old habits" highlights the singer's desperation and willingness to sacrifice their well-being and morality for temporary pleasures. The "packet of the same old habits" represents their addiction, the repetitive cycle they find themselves trapped in, and their inability to break free from destructive patterns.
The line "It's a shame that I crave this damage" suggests that the singer recognizes the harm they are causing themselves but cannot resist the allure of their destructive habits. This internal conflict between the desire for self-destruction and the acknowledgement of its negative consequences adds depth to the lyrics.
The imagery of a masquerade and a grenade expresses the idea that the singer's self-destructive behavior is both a disguise and a dangerous weapon. They hide their pain and vulnerability behind a metaphorical mask or facade while simultaneously inflicting damage upon themselves and potentially others.
In summary, these lyrics reflect the internal struggle of someone who willingly engages in self-destructive behaviors and is torn between the satisfaction they get from their habits and the negative consequences that come with them. The songwriter invites the listener to consider the allure of dangerous behavior and the potential toll it can take on one's mental and physical well-being.
