A high octane, adrenaline pumping experience, Secret Episodes is as pure and emotional as it gets. From the title track’s dramatic opener to the emotive closer that is ‘Situational/Separation’, They Will Kill Us All rewards its listeners with a journey of sonic expressions that will surely bring joy and excitement to their hearts.
With thick layers of instrumentation fronted by trademark lush guitar lines, in-your-face vocals and a tender ear for sophisticated pop poignancy, They Will Kill Us All is able to present melodic hooks with urgant, driving rhythms. Coining their music as ‘noise pop’, the band manages to straddle the fine line between forward thinking music and mainstream mass appeal. All while crafting a tightly produced, hook-laden rock album appealing to indie and pop fans alike.
The album opens up with the dramatic title track ‘Secret Episodes’, evoking dreamy shoe gazing melodies coupled with bruising distortions and a pounding rhythm that showcases their deep British Indie influences. The dramatic then gives way to the infectious: first single ‘Bright Lights’ is an obvious sing-along, proving that the band can deliver pop hooks with a gritty edge. Other influences bubble up as well: ‘Curtains’ evokes Suede’s fashionable melodic introspection but with killer strumming and tight rhythm. ‘Midnight Express’ is a dark, thrilling song that is takes its cue from The Secret Machine’s pulsating drums fused with a hypnotizing lead that weaves in and out. ‘Running into Spaces’ is a definite joy of a song, leaving the listener wanting for more, as evident in their live shows whenever this song is performed. The closer ‘Situational/Separation’ is arguable the best song of the whole lot. Written as a tribute, the song is a lush instrumental that evokes memories of a father longingly missed.
The debut effort sees the band putting in their effort to deliver their best. Recorded at four different studios spread over a time period of eight months, every effort was taken with care and deliberation to ensure that the right sound and emotion is manifested in the music. The final touches of magic were done in West West Side Music, NY under the watchful eyes of mastering guru Alan Douches (Mastodon, Ben Folds Five, Rapture)
Here is an album that offers plenty of optimism and energy. This is the album you always crave after the dark times seem to be setting in. This is the beginning of great things to come from They Will Kill Us All.

They Will Kill Us All Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Feel like the first time
Not far not really near
But its getting loud
And louder
And louder
And louder
And louder
Far out why are we here
What do we call the sound
Not far i guessing not really near
And its getting loud
And louder
Why are we here
The lyrics of "Curtains" by They Will Kill Us All seem to be introspective and open to interpretation. The vocalist starts by saying, "Far out I lose control", which suggests that they might be feeling overwhelmed and out of touch with reality. The next two lines "Feel like the first time/Not far, not really near" add to the idea that they might be feeling disoriented or disconnected from their surroundings. They wonder, "what do we call this sound?" which suggests that the noise they are hearing is not just a physical sound, but also a metaphor for something else.
The chorus is repetitive and loud, which adds to the sense of chaos in the song. The vocalist repeats the lines "And louder/And louder/And louder" several times which suggests that whatever is going on inside their mind or their surroundings is getting more intense and overwhelming. They are questioning their existence and wondering why they are here. This could be interpreted as a reflection on the meaning of life or a plea for answers to deep philosophical questions.
Overall, the song seems to be expressing a sense of confusion and uncertainty, but also a desire to make sense of it all. The lyrics suggest that the vocalist is reaching out for understanding and trying to make sense of their experience. The use of repetition and the gradual increase in volume also add to the sense of urgency and intensity in the song.
