Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed
Thin Lizzy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Johnny the Fox he called to Jimmy the Weed
He said "Hey man, I know your name"
I seen you cruising with the low riders
Hanging out down on First street and Main

Tuned into and listen to the voodoo Rhythm Devils
Around the Bay
They've got some crazy DJs
Send you right out to heaven

Jimmy the Weed for greed was taken aback
Johnny the Fox you old sly cat
Cleverly the Fox concealed his stash
Crisp dollar bills leave no tracks

In the back of a black cadillac
The voodoo music travels
Down Skid Row only black men can go
The shady deal unravels

Johnny the Fox, hot to hustle
Jimmy the Weed won't use no muscle
that cat's so sly, slick and subtle
Johnny the Fox breaks out the bottle

Tuned into and listening to
The voodoo music travels

The beating drum for the lonely one
Sends you out to heaven

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Thin Lizzy's "Johnny The Fox Meets Jimmy The Weed" tell the story of two men, Johnny the Fox and Jimmy the Weed, who are involved in some shady dealings involving drugs and music. Johnny contacts Jimmy, impressed by his reputation as a dealer with connections to the low riders down on First and Main, and urges him to tune into the voodoo Rhythm Devils, a group of DJs who play "crazy" music that can send you "right out to heaven." However, there's a twist: Johnny is actually setting Jimmy up to steal his stash of money, which he cleverly conceals in crisp dollar bills that "leave no tracks."

As the story unfolds, we see the two men driving around in a black Cadillac, with the voodoo music blaring as they head down Skid Row, a notoriously seedy area that only black men can enter. Johnny is hot to hustle, but Jimmy is more reserved, and doesn't want to resort to muscle to get what he wants. In the end, he doesn't need to, as Johnny tricks him into drinking from a bottle of whiskey that's been laced with some sort of drug. As Jimmy fades away, the voodoo music carries on, sending him out to heaven.

Overall, the lyrics offer a dark and intriguing glimpse into the world of drugs, music, and shady deals, with a hint of violence and danger lurking just beneath the surface. While the story is fictional, it's easy to imagine that similar scenarios played out every day on the streets of cities around the world, lending the song a sense of authenticity and realism.

Anyone who agrees with me that Thin Lizzy should be inducted to the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame Like this comment (say I )

Denny Ablack

I disagree - the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame just awards themselves fame and credibility from it's awardees - keep them far from Thin Lizzy!!

Downey is the man. He did it all. Powerful straight ahead rock, bouncy shuffles with a lighter touch, and nasty funk like this. The hi hat barks, cymbal crashes and snare drum fills in the this song are everywhere but on the beat. Brilliant

Al Donoghue

Defo in the top ten drummer's of all time maybe top five

rasferet

indeed, with catchy lyrics about a first-time deal.
