Disorder
Third Eye Blind Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been waiting for a guide to come and take me by the hand
Can these sensations make me feel the pleasures of a normal man?
These sensations barely interest me for another day
I've got the spirit, lose the feeling, take the shock away
Take the shock away, yeah

I lose the feeling
I lose the feeling

It's gettin' faster, moving faster now, it's gettin' out of hand
On the tenth floor, down the back stairs, it's a no man's land
Lights are flashing, cars are crashing, getting frequent now
I got the spirit, lose the feeling, and let it out somehow
And let it out somehow, yeah

I lose the feeling
I lose the feeling

What means to you, what means to me, and we will meet again
I'm watching you, I'm watching her, I'll take no pity from you friends
Who is right, who can tell, and who gives a damn right now
Until the spirit new sensation takes hold, then you know

I got the spirit, but lose the feeling
I got the spirit, but lose the feeling
I got the spirit, but lose the feeling
I got the spirit, but lose the feeling

Feeling, feeling, feeling, feeling

Feeling, feeling, feeling, feeling
Feeling

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Third Eye Blind’s “Disorder” explore the complexities of emotion and the desire for guidance in navigating them. The singer of the song is searching for someone or something to guide them through the overwhelming sensations they feel, which they hope will allow them to feel like a “normal man”. They express that these sensations barely interest them for another day and are causing them to lose feeling.

The second stanza depicts the intensification of these emotions, with the singer feeling out of control as the world around them seems to speed up and crash down. However, despite this chaos, they continue to hold onto their spirit even as they lose feeling. The final stanza tackles the idea of perception and the difficulty of determining what is “right”. Ultimately, the singer is waiting for a new sensation to take hold, perhaps providing them with the guidance they seek.

To me, this song highlights the challenge of navigating emotions and feeling out of control, yet despite this, holding onto our spirit. The lyrics also question the importance of societal perceptions of what is “normal” and the role of others in providing guidance.

3EB is one of those rock bands that have progressed and kept the wave 🌊 going for NEW bands, and some of them haven’t stayed together as long as 3EB has, I remember hearing on Limp Bizkit’s “Significant Other” album Where Fred Durst was talking to Stephan on the phone telling him “he didn’t want to go to London” lol 😂 and Stephan was like “oh you’re in London Fred” 😂
