Realizing they had something special, they decided to form a band, and not long after, entered a local battle of the bands competition. In order to enter, they needed a name: “We procrastinated filling out the submission form for the competition until just minutes before the deadline when we came up with ‘Thirstbusters,’ which evolved from a slang term used amongst a group of our friends. At first we weren’t sure it worked, but the name has come to embody the fun and enthusiasm we personify in our music,” says Chase (bass).
The Thirstbusters sound can best be summed up as melodic and jazz influenced, with a pop rock-driven, feel-good vibe. The fact that the band writes all of their own music comes as no surprise, as all four members come from a diverse musical background and bring a unique sound to the table. They work hard on their craft; rehearsing, studying with great musicians and teachers, it’s all part of what they love to do most, make music. Crowds who come to their shows are quickly won over by the high level of musicianship and energy, as the Thirstbusters love to perform live. “Singing a song that’s connected to the essence of who you are — with your best friends on stage with you and hundreds of smiling faces in the audience singing along — that’s incredible!” says Zach (vocals/keyboards).
As for their current whereabouts, all four members of the band are currently majoring in music at colleges across the U.S. Forrest and Ryan are at UCLA, Zach is at Vassar and Chase attends Oberlin. And even though they’re spread across the country, their collaborative creative process never stops. These efforts paid off in a big way late last year when the band was home for Christmas break. They shot their first video (directed by Monique Sorgen) for “So There,” a song from their debut album “Time You Awake.” The video for “So There” went on to great critical acclaim and caught the attention of the folks at Disney who featured the video on their Disney XD channel this past spring. Not long after, the band was signed by the ICM talent agency in Hollywood and they were on their way.
So There

Why you sit so far away
I want to start a conversation
But I wouldn't know how to say
Hello there
Would you like a piece of gum
Hello there
I can see it in your eyes
You have almost realized
If you want to let me know
I'll let all me feelings flow
Oh yes, oh no
Every time I hide my smile, does it show
Try to look away but you are so there
The school bell rings, class is over
You leave your seat
We're walkin in the same direction
A perfect chance to meet
Hello there
Would you like to walk together
Hello there
This is certainly bad weather
I can see it in your eyes
You have almost realized
If you want to, let me know
I'll let all me feelings flow
Oh yes, oh no
Every time I hide my smile, does it show?
Try to look away but you are so there
I can see it in your eyes
You have almost realized
If you want to, let me know
I'll let all me feelings flow
Oh yes, oh no
Every time I hide my smile, does it show?
Try to look away but you are so there
In the first verse of "So There," ThirstBusters' lead singer is speaking directly to someone they have their eye on in their second period class. They express their interest in starting a conversation with this person, but they are too nervous to initiate. They offer a piece of gum and suggest the answer to an unknown question is 51, possibly as a way to break the ice. However, they ultimately admit that they wouldn't know how to approach this person in a conversation.
In the second verse, the school bell rings and class is over, giving the singer and their love interest a perfect opportunity to meet as they are walking in the same direction. The singer takes this chance to ask if they would like to walk together, acknowledging the bad weather as they do so. They express the same sentiment as the first verse, explaining that they see potential interest in their crush's eyes and that they would share their feelings if given the opportunity.
The chorus expresses the singer's inner turmoil when it comes to their love interest, admitting that they cannot hide their smile and that this person is always on their mind despite their best efforts to look away.
Overall, "So There" is a relatable song about unrequited crushes and the nerves that come with trying to express one's feelings.

I love this song. Caught it on Disney. Great video. Awesome music. Sounds like smooth or contemporary jazz, which is not what I think of, when Disney comes to mind.
