Their debut self-titled album, 30 Seconds to Mars, released on August 27, 2002 in the United States through Immortal and Virgin. Jared Leto described the record as a concept album that focuses on human struggle and self-determination, in which otherworldly elements and conceptual ideas are used to illustrate a truthful personal situation. The album reached #107 on the US Billboard 200 and number one on the US Top Heatseekers, selling 121,000 copies in the United States alone. It was preceded by the single "Capricorn (A Brand New Name)", which peaked at number 31 on the US Mainstream Rock chart and entered the top ten of the UK Rock Chart. Upon its release, 30 Seconds to Mars was met with mostly positive reviews; a critic felt that the band has "managed to carve out a unique niche for themselves in the rock realm." Although the album was a slow-burning success, it eventually sold two million copies worldwide as of March 2011.

A Beautiful Lie - 2005
A Beautiful Lie was released on August 30, 2005 in the United States. Because the album was leaked five months before its release, the band decided to include two bonus tracks: "Battle of One" (an original song that was also set to be the album's title track when it was first announced) and "Hunter" (a cover of the Björk song).

It has since been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and has reached platinum and gold status in several countries, with a sales total of over four million. It was led by "Attack", which made its radio debut on June 6, 2005 and became the most added track on American modern rock radio during its first week of release.

During 2005, Thirty Seconds to Mars released the album's second single, "The Kill", which set a record for the longest-running hit in the history of the US Modern Rock chart when it remained on the national chart for more than 50 weeks, following its number three peak in 2006. Its music video, directed by Jared Leto under the pseudonym of Bartholomew Cubbins, received a largely positive response and numerous accolades, including an MTV Video Music Award.

This Is War - 2009
This is War released through Virgin Records and EMI on December 8, 2009. Upon its release, it peaked at #18 on the Billboard 200.

Leto described the style as "much more electronic and experimental, with lots of vintage synths." Leto also mentioned that he had written lyrics about some themes he felt were missing from their previous work, such as optimism and sexuality only for the song "Stranger in a Strange Land".

The music video for the song "Hurricane" was banned by MTV and several other TV channels around the world. The video, which runs for 13 minutes and 10 seconds and was directed by Jared Leto under the pseudonym Bartholomew Cubbin, premiered on MTV on November 29, 2010. The video was censored and banned because of its elements of violence, nudity and sex. On November 28, 2010, Jared Leto posted the letter from MTV about the censorship of the video on his blog. The list features the offending scenes, such as a woman running her finger on the anus of another G-string woman, which was classified as "restricted". It was only this shot which had made the video completely restricted.

Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams - 2013
Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams (stylized as LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS) was released through Virgin Records on May 17, 2013. Upon release, peaked #6 on the Billboard 200 and sold 52,000 copies in its first week of release.

Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams is a concept album revolving around the themes after which the album is named. The album is divided into four segments, each named Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams, with the beginning of each segment declared by a female voice proclaiming the name of the segment before the beginning of a song or at the end of an interlude which introduces the next segment of the album.

A more specific album concept can be seen inside the CD. It is recognized by four colors, with the color red standing for Love, yellow for Lust, green for Faith, and blue for Dreams. LOVE contains "Birth" and "Conquistador". LUST contains "Up in the Air", "City of Angels", "The Race", "End of All Days" and "Pyres of Varanasi". FAITH contains "Bright Lights", "Do or Die" and "Convergence". DREAMS contains "Northern Lights", and "Depuis Le Début".

"Up in the Air" was released as the lead single from Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams on March 19, 2013. A CD copy of the single was sent to NASA and SpaceX for launch aboard the Dragon spacecraft on SpaceX CRS-2. The mission was launched atop a Falcon 9 rocket on March 1, 2013, sending the first ever commercial copy of music into space. The spacecraft berthed and docked with the International Space Station on March 3, 2013, making the single available to play by the Expedition 35 crew aboard the station. The song made its worldwide debut aboard the station on March 18, 2013 and was released as a Digital download single on iTunes the next day. The music video was released on April 19, 2013 worldwide on Vevo.

"City of Angels" was sent to US Modern rock radio as a promotional single from Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams on July 23, 2013. A music video for "City of Angels", featuring Bartholomew Cubbins as director, was released onto YouTube on October 29, 2013. It was shot over two days on August 18 and 19, 2013, in Los Angeles, California.

"Do or Die" was released as a promotional single from Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams on September 9, 2013 in Europe. During the Summer European Tour, Jared confirmed the band was recording footage for a live video for the song. The music video was released on August 5, 2013 worldwide on Vevo.

Rescue Me is a song about pain, a song about empowerment, a song about faith, and a song about freedom.

Freedom from the wreckage of your past. Freedom from the bondage of self. And freedom to embrace all the promises that life has to offer.

It’s also a song about the brutal war so many of us wage against fear, depression and anxiety in the hope that we might, one day, live a life filled with happiness and dreams.

Pain does not discriminate. It can affect us all. In our bodies. Our hearts. Our minds. And often, when that pain is emotional or mental, we are afraid to speak up.

None of us are “ok” all the time. And there shouldn't be a stigma when we aren’t. Both my brother and I have had our own intense personal battles and it has, and continues to be, life changing. I try to remember that just past the darkest days await the brightest and most rewarding moments. And that change is always right around the corner.

I want to thank everyone for being so brave, selfless and vulnerable in this video. The emotion and honesty shared impacted me greatly and I hope it does that same for you all. I am very proud and grateful to have worked with one of my heroes - the master filmmaker and director Mark Romanek. It’s the first time in 13 years I haven’t directed our videos. It was a gift to have him carry the weight so graciously and deliver something so profoundly simple and beautiful.

I just want to write down my testimonial about this masterpiece
The first time i listened to this song was 4 years ago, I was 18, i was (and am) suffering with depression and anxiety. I used to listen to this with my earphones, and imagine me singing and screaming this song very loudly on the nature. I wanted to scream the pain out of me, exactly how those people on the videoclip are doing. But i could never do that, because i was alone, my parents were so toxic and i had nowhere to go.... But, everything changed on December 2022. I went to a waterfall with my best friend, just the two of us. The waterfall was completely empty, Just me, my best friend and the Nature. We put some songs to cheer up, then i told her to put Rescue Me.
Man.... I had the best experience on my entirely life. It was like a therapy. I sang this song out loud, i screamed my pain away, i danced so hard on the waterfall. i felt i was being set free of every fucking trauma i had. The song connected deeply with every cell of my body, i could feel the melody running through my veins. I was connected to the nature and the gods. I WAS FREE! OF EVERY DEMON THAT BOTHERED MY MIND. I made my dream come true after 4 years.

Here I am in 2022 using the absolute hell out of this song. A full on dad bod guy enjoying himself on an a random Thursday night. I will forever be a fan of 30 Seconds To Mars. Thank you for this. This is my favorite song on this CD and now my favorite video, As a survivor of Breast Cancer I understand the meaning of this song, there were times that I wanted to just give up and not do my chemo anymore because I was tired of being tired and sick all the time but then I remember that I have two kids who need me so I got over it and fought, I had my last chemo June 8th of 2016, then July 13th, I had my surgery to remove my right breast which was horrible but I fought that too, then after healing from that, I had to do radiation for a month, every day Monday through Friday for 15 minutes which I think that was the hardset thing I did, just imagine a really bad sunburn that will not go away. Then Dec 27th, 2016 I was put on remission and been clear ever since. This song makes me believe also that my daughter will survive her battle as well, she was clinically diagnosed with Major Depressive disorder and Anxiety, I'm still learning how to help her but I know she has to fight this fight by herself too!!! Thank you Jared Leto and the rest of the group for opening people's eyes because there are people out there that fight battles everyday!!! I can't wait to meet you and tell you this to your face July 11th

Martha I am a 2 time breast cancer survivor, 5 years ago the second go around I lost both breast, chemo, radiation, March 29, 2018 I finally had grown my hair back and was long enough to donate to Locks of Love (12") I cried so hard because I thought that day would never happen and I'm still here and cancer free . . hang in there beautiful woman!!!

I know how you feel, Martha. I used to listen to Do Or Die every single day when I was in rehab learning to walk again after almost losing my leg from blood loss when my aorta dissected. I was so tired and I had been given six months to a year to live because of my vascular illness. But, I kept listening and held onto the strength of their music. A year later, I met Jared and Shannen and was able to tell them how much they meant to me. Embrace/savor the moment and make sure you smile big for that photo op! Best wishes always.

Ok, so I thought that watching the video at the office could be a good idea, since I-CAN'T-WAIT. Well, it was not. And this is the most positive thing I could ever said about this video.
The "silent" screams, the sighs, the faces, the tears... I have seen myself reflected on each one of this motions, and now I'm fighting myself to not cry, laugh, scream and jump all around.
It maybe is because I had never needed to be rescued so bad before, it could be because all the pain and anger I'm gathering between my throat and stomach. This video has touched right in the center, where it hurts, but where it can be released and relieved.
As always, you nailed it.

I am born imperfect when I was young I felt insecure and I always compared myself to the people born completely, and I always asked God Why Me? But as I grew up I understood every single day that God has a purpose in making me like this that no matter how we look and born onto this Earth we’re special on our own way. My first concert was the during the beautiful album. Saw them in a small venue as well with my gf at the time. I am very happy I did. Cause now my wife and I are going to see them at an ampatheater. Crazy stoked.
The most memorable part of the smaller venue. He did an acoustic song by himself in the dark with only blue teal and green lights around him. Made for one hell of a moment.

Why, you ask... I think it's because a lot of people used to follow a serious band that turned into musical garbage. The lyrics here are decent, nothing more but yes they are something, nonetheless the music it's worthless. It requires a certain amount of ... well, let's call it naivety to consider their change ad an evolution. As he most ironically sings, "sell yourself" etc. etc. That's exactly what they did, they sold themselves, with a certain success, undoubtedly. Good for them. Just, do not ask people who are into music for real to appreciate them. They have been the greatest disappointment of the new millennium. That's why... this takes nothing out of your passion, but it's the only answer. Whether to try and discover where they failed mature expectations or not, it's up to you. Good luck.

I love this album, not their best - I loved the This Is War album, but although their style is evolving and it's not usually my sort of thing, I'm enjoying it. This song is beautiful and so are the people who took part in the video.

His own personal style has changed several times over his career, I like that, he is an artist through and through and I think that it can be really good to change like he has. As we go through different times in our lives they change and this causes us to change, you fall in love, some get married or at least move in with each other. Some have kids. Your way of thinking about things change in so many ways. The change from your 30's to your 40' your 40's from your 50's and so one. Some people's live change more drastically that other. Rich, poor, black, white, Arab or from the orient, it happens the same for everyone.

This video is AWESOME. Featuring different kinds of people showing the same emotions reflected in their faces, showing that it doesn't matter who you are, whether you're black or white, old or young, beautiful, handicapped, etc. All of us are human beings with a life, feelings and all of us have our own story, our troubles and sufferings, and have experienced the pain at some moment. The video matchs the lyrics so perfectly in my opinion. Rescue Me is one of the most beautiful and meaningful songs of Mars' new album, only made for those who understand.

This is is truly powerful! I've been battling cancer since January 2012 and there has been many times I wish someone would rescue me from my pain I experience since then. Im trying to get clean from opiates. Last night i said this is my last night of getting high. I had my headphones on listening to Nothing But Thieves n i fell asleep. I woke up n this song was playing in my ears!!! Ive been battling this addiction for so long n ive had so much bad happen too me!!! I made myself broke n out of $ on purpose so i can't get more pills. Crazy how this song came n woke me up when i wasnt even listening to 30 Seconds To Mars. Crazy thing is ive been a fan of them since 2002 n Capricorn is 1 of my favorite songs of all time. I think it was a sign from my Grandpop who's my guardian angel n my dog i just put down 2 weeks ago. You got to do whatever it takes man, life is a battle, and if you can't do it cold turkey, you can wean yourself off it slowly.... life awaits you outside of your addiction spiral...it just needs you to keep fighting and stay strong....nourish your body and your mind at the same time...do things that will lift you up, start eating well, exercise, spend your time watching inspirational people who have beat their demons here on Youtube (there are many)...and count your blessings as well...you still are one of the lucky ones.. ;o)). Thanks David i appreciate your kind words. I was in a bad car accident at 19 when i was in the U.S Navy n suffered a brain injury n a broken back. The Navy discharged me. After yrs of therapy i got a job with Verizon n was doing great but my addiction took over from stress at work n went to rehab. Got clean was doing great n back to work then 1 night i was jumped in a parking lot by a group of gang members and beaten with a pipe and robbed. I suffered another brain injury from that and a fractured neck. After that happened was my 1st relapse and i lost my job with Verizon. I got real bad n for yrs i was depressed n manipulated drs for pills n bought em illegally. It got so bad that i lost all my friends n my gf at the time from my addiction. I did some fucked up stuff!! Then last yr i decided to try hyperbaric oxygen therapy to treat my brain injuries my ptsd my post concussive syndrome my bad back n neck n it also helps drug addiction. I needed 120 treatments at $18,000. I borrowed $6k from family n did 40 treatments. I finished them n was feeling alot better n was making arrangements to get another $6k bc u can only do 40 treatments at a time then u gotta wait 4-6 to start again so your body can absorb it and your new cells can grow on there own. Well 2 weeks after my last treatment of the 1st 40 i waa in another bad car accident not my fault once again. 1at accident i was passenger n got ejected out of the car n this recent accident a dump truck cut me off n i hit it head on at 45mph. I was pinned in the car n had to be cut out by jaws of life. I had to have major reconstructive surgery to my left knee, right foot, i have nerve damage in my arm n i got my 6th concussion. So everytime something good is going for me something outta my control brings it down almost like im being tested n i question why im still alive. Well long stort short ive been relapsed now since the accident n just got kicked outta pain management for failing a drug test for weed so no more pills from dr n i spent all my savings on pills illegally so now im broke n i feel like shit. I know theres a better life waiting for me and i have a lot of $ coming my way n i dont want to be an addict when i get the lawsuit i want to be a good person n do good things when that time comes. I actually have talked to Sebastian Terry several months ago bc i wanna help ppl in need when i get better. Do you know who he is??? And once again thank you ;)))

This song is the one that I fell in love with first and the hardest on this album. I think the lyrics are paired so perfectly with the music. It resonates with a deep part of my heart, a part that I have never shared with anyone. As someone who has faced with depression and anxiety (and finally seeking help after 15 years), this is the perfect song to scream cry the lyrics to on a bad day. Thank you ever so much for sharing this song with us, and pairing it with such a powerful video.

I was in a mental facility when I first heard this song.
When I heard it, that was my encouragement to work on myself.
I thank you guys. If it wasn't for this song, I probably would still be there. So I truly thank you.

This song hit my heart like a drum. I went through three separate visits to the psych ward back in 2018 alone, which were in themselves already difficult. I finally left my job at the Naval base in September of that year bc it became too much and I was scraping through my money just to cover transportation to work. That was the last straw for me. But that song is my saving grace and I can't thank these enough for it. It only pushed me further to realize my artistic intentions are met.

This video is simple and so beautiful. It portrayed so much, it made me feel that I’m not alone. The lyrics are so meaningful and deep and once again, another song from this incredible band I had the great chance to see live, is making me realize that no matter how much I think I’m not worthy of living there are people who really want to help us and try their best to clear our minds from self-loathing. Back in 2013, I was a 13 years old dealing with so many problems like feeling suicidal, depression and anxiety. Their songs helped me so much to keep moving on, how many nights I cried listening to their music, wishing things to get better, wishing to be happy. Now here I am, after so many things I went trough those years, finally happy. I didn't listen to them like before but I felt like these days , their songs are really special for me. All I can say is thank you, and to anyone struggling out there, you'll be happy very soon, just believe it and keep moving. Love from Brazil and sorry for my bad english haha 💙💙💙

I had to start completely over when I got out of jail due to my 2nd dwi and a theft charge that an ex girlfriend filed on me. I am still proudly sober and wouldn't change that for the world!!! My background haunts me everyday...I can't seem to find anyone who will give me a second chance at a job. I love playing drums,baseball, and yard work.
