Forming back in 2007, This Century have quickly become one of the more exciting pop/rock bands to enter the scene. With their first LP release on Action Theory/Warner Bros. entitled “Sound Of Fire”, the band solidified their spot amongst the top tier of the pop/rock circuit. Soon after the release, AP Magazine named the them as one of the “100 Bands You Need To Know for 2011”. Their unique combination of anthemic pop and die hard grassroots fan base has led them to extensive tour dates with the likes of Good Charlotte, The Maine, The Ready Set, Breathe Carolina, Hey Monday and many others.
The band has recently teamed up with producer Colby Wedgeworth (The Maine) to work on music for their upcoming second LP that is yet to be released. ”We’re always trying to push the limits of what a pop band can be and we feel that we strive to top ourselves each time around.” says guitarist Sean Silverman about the upcoming release. The band is gearing up for a busy year that kick-starts with their brand new single. The song is an upbeat tour de force of pop that frontman Joel Kanitz calls ”the perfect summer anthem with a larger than life sound.”
This Century has most recently seen a large rise in popularity in Southeast Asia, where their songs “Sound of Fire” and “Everywhere, Everything” have both reached #1 on top 40 radio formats and continue to receive consistent radio attention. Plans for 2012 will include a run of international dates in support of their recent success. “We really feel like we’re developing something special internationally, something completely organic and new.” says bassist Alex Silverman, “There’s an excitement surrounding it that makes you eager to find out where our amazing fans are going to take the band next.”

Slow Dance Night
This Century Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Get me up and get me out
Running in the city with a brand new sound
They got it figured out
Burning up in smoke, talking slow as they spin around
[Pre-Chorus:]
Your mind is drowning in the blood red wine
Meet me in the middle of a crowded line tonight
[Chorus:]
Cause it's a slow dance night
Everybody out there wasting time
It's a slow dance night
Everybody out there, Everybody out there
Oooh ooooh oooh oooh ooooh oooh
Everybody out there wasting time
Oooh ooooh oooh oooh ooooh oooh
Everybody out there, Everybody out there
[Verse:]
Come on and let it out
Loosen up the collar on the night you found
Let’s take it underground
Nevermind the world on the outside is shutting down
[Pre-Chorus:]
Your mind is drowning in the blood red wine
Intoxicated with the noise inside
Meet me in the middle of a crowded line tonight
[Chorus:]
Cause it's a slow dance night
Everybody out there wasting time
It's a slow dance night
Everybody out there, Everybody out there
Oooh ooooh oooh oooh ooooh oooh
Everybody out there wasting time
Oooh ooooh oooh oooh ooooh oooh
Everybody out there, Everybody out there
Oooh ooooh oooh oooh ooooh oooh
[Chorus:]
Cause it's a slow dance night
Everybody out there wasting time
It's a slow dance night
Everybody out there, Everybody out there
Oooh ooooh oooh oooh ooooh oooh
Everybody out there wasting time
Oooh ooooh oooh oooh ooooh oooh
Everybody out there, Everybody out there
Cause it's a slow dance night
The lyrics of "Slow Dance Night" by This Century speak of a desire to escape the pressures of the outside world and its demands, and to instead indulge in a night of carefree fun and spontaneity. The opening verse talks about getting out of the house and venturing into the city, with its new and exciting sounds. The people they encounter are "burning up in smoke," moving slowly as they dance, and seemingly without a care in the world. The lyrics suggest that the singer of the song feels trapped in the wider world, but the slow dance night offers a reprieve from that sense of entrapment.
The pre-chorus highlights the singer's state of mind- they are "drowning in the blood red wine" and "intoxicated with the violet lights." They are caught up in the moment and seeking an escape from reality. The chorus, "It's a slow dance night, everybody out there wasting time," reflects the carefree and spontaneous nature of the evening. The singer is inviting everyone to join them in wasting time, enjoying the moment for what it is, and living in the now.
The second verse echoes the sentiment of the first, with the singer encouraging the listener to "let it out" and forget the stresses and demands of the outside world. The line, "Never mind the world on the outside is shutting down," suggests that the singer seeks to remain in the moment, away from the pressures of the wider world.
In summary, "Slow Dance Night" speaks of the desire to escape from the pressures of everyday life and to live in the moment. The song suggests that spending an evening in playful and spontaneous enjoyment, such as a slow dance night, is a way to find that escape.
