Three Dog Night are still active in 2012, touring and recording 43 years after their first album was released. The first of the band's 7 million-selling singles was One in 1969. They scored three number one singles: Mama Told Me (Not to Come), Joy to the World and Black and White.

The original lineup included three lead vocalists — Danny Hutton, Chuck Negron, and Cory Wells — along with Michael Allsup on guitar, Jimmy Greenspoon on keyboards Floyd Sneed on drums and Joe Schermie (from the Cory Wells Blues Band) on bass.

Three Dog Night recorded some tracks with Beach Boys producer, composer, vocalist, and instrumentalist Brian Wilson before signing with Dunhill Records and at the time went under the name Redwood. The band changed their name based on an article describing how Australian Aborigines slept with their dogs for warmth on cold nights, the coldest being a "three-dog night."

Free were hard to top, but Three Dog Night did it with this track. Not just the vocal power of the three singers, but the extended bit after mid-song really added to the feel. All that atmosphere. They made it their own. Three Dog Night were known for the vocalists but the backing band were very, very good.

This was a Free original with the great Paul Rodgers on vocals. Despite this Three Dog Night definitely do a better rendition as unlikely as it may be considering the incredible vocal talents of Paul Rodgers. Corey and Chuck were second to no-one and Danny was no slouch either. Arguably the strongest rock vocal trio of all time.

All I can say about this song besides I love it, is that toward the end of the slow jam when Corey Wells screams it just sends chills down my spine. So damn cool man. Lol! He mosdef had the greatest range in their trio.

When I was 13 I got the album "Golden Biscuits". This was on it. Three Dog Night did a lot of good songs but this was one of my favorites. It also had Celebrate, Easy To Be Hard, Out In The Country, Mama Told Me (Not To Come). It was a great album.

I had that album too. I was around the same age (I turned 61 this year---2017). Three Dog Night was my favorite band at that time. The first time I heard Mama Told Me (Not To Come) I was at a swimming lake with 3 sliding boards of different heights and a diving board, all mounted on a huge dock. You had to swim farther out to get to the high dive. I also remember hearing a lot of their songs at the skating rink, which is where I met this little dark haired girl, who was fast as lightning on the skating floor. And not just the floor! I was just standing around when she came up and started talking to me. Next thing I knew she grabbed me around the neck, pulled me down and planted a kiss right on my lips, Then, just like that, was flying around the floor again. A couple of laps later... same thing. Those were my first kisses and I loved that little dark haired girl for them. Come to think of it, it was winter-time and possibly a cold "three dog night." Anyway, those kisses sure warmed me!

I really got into three dog night while cruising in my bro in-laws 56’ Belair through the streets of So Cal when I was around 12/13 he was 20/21 in 1969-70, showing me the ropes (lol) he had the bomb amplified 8 track to just below deafening. I remember Golden Biscuit so well, listening to Woman through the headphones over and over!

These guys headlined the first rock show I ever saw, @ Cobo Hall, Detroit, Spring of '69.
Also on the bill were a Detroit band, Frost, and John Mayall.
Mayall's band was the the band that recorded The Turning Point LP in 1969, NO DRUMMER.
They were touring to promote this record, which featured "Mama Told Me Not To Come".

November 1973, Ontario Speedway CA. (The November Jam) my first concert. It was an all day event with the top groups of the times! Canned Heat,The Guess Who ect. ect. Chuck Berry had top billing with TDK as 2nd, CB ended up as a no show and we were there to see TDN anyways.
They did not disappoint us either!
It started drizzling in the evening and it was the first time I copped a “contact high”. I had all there LP’s and my house was the hang in 73’ for my posse, I think I wore a hole in Golden biscuit with this track and would crank it up on Pops hi-fi set while we’d shoot pool unsupervised of course and play “cue stick guitar”.

Used to camp in the woods behind our house when I was about 9 or 10 with my best friend, and about dark we would head down to the woods with a battery powered cassette player playing a swiped copy of Golden Bisquits! lol! We would play it over and over and dance around the campfire til the battery's died! A couple of adolescent Hippies! These songs mean the world to me still today! Amazing music! Got to see TDN just about a month ago in Knoxville TN. A lifelong dream! Yes, Anthony new faces but they still have the magic! It was so incredible just to see Danny Hutton and Michael Alsup!

This was one of our 2015 archives. Friends a lot (and I mean A LOT!) has happened since then. For starters, this classic could use another 'restoration Pass' (or two) to build on what we did in 2015, especially now. I hope to eventually make that happen at some point. But there is much more work to do. Let me explain.

Folks, are you aware that there exist many, many legacy artists that unfortunately, the digital age of music has NOT been so kind? For example, one of them is Pop/Country artist, B. J. Thomas. So my studio, LegacyVMP Studio, is on a mission to try and help do our part to change this kind of business climate within the legacy audio industry that we feel, is long overdue. I think the time is right for studios like mine (and others!) to take what technology now affords us and turn it into something that can be very positive for the industry as a whole.
