The Last Rainbow Warrior Is Dead
Throes of Dawn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Bitter funerals in silence held
Twelve coffins laid to earth
To dust all human hope to wither
The last rainbow warrior is dead

Ours is the world of tragedy
Ours is the world of grief
For countless,
Gray days of dismay
It's been snowing black ashes
Upon these devastated lands
Dreadful are the storms
That grind these mountains to sand

Hear the voice of destruction
As it screams through our souls
With the vast storms it walks
Proud destruction in human form

"The last rainbow
Warrior is dead!
Behold the rising
Of the furious dawn
It's hollow black rays
Kill the colors
And the meaning of life
The last rainbow
Warrior is dead!
The spring yields
To winter never ending"

For silence will walk the earth
The silence of the stars above
A desolate world that snows under
Into dreams endless enter

City after city
Continent after continent

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Throes Of Dawn's song The Last Rainbow Warrior Is Dead speaks to the end of hope and the destruction of a world that was once so beautiful. The song suggests that we are living in a world of tragedy and grief where there is no hope for a better tomorrow. The first few lines of the song depict a funeral where twelve coffins are laid to the earth, symbolizing the death of the rainbow warrior. It is clear that this "death" marks the end of an era where hope was once present, and now everything is falling apart. As a result, the world is filled with despair, and it seems like there is nothing that can be done to make things better.

The next verse speaks to the devastating effects of the world's situation, where black ash has been falling for what seems like an eternity. The imagery of a world where it's been snowing black ash is truly haunting. It suggests that the world is dark, and there is no light, no hope to be found. The storms are destructive, turning mountains to dust, and the voice of destruction can be heard in the distance. The last lines of the verse reveal that the last rainbow warrior is dead, which is a metaphor for the last glimmer of hope that has been lost.

The final verses speak to the grim reality that the world will never be the same again. The rising dawn is described as being furious, and its hollow black rays kill the colors and meaning of life. The spring yields to winter, dark and endless. The final lines of the song speak to a world where silence will walk the earth, and it will be desolate. The world that once was beautiful and full of life will have nothing left but dreams.
