Lonely Cities
TiGERTOWN Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Why we gotta go so far down different roads?
Now I wonder if I want it at all
Is this how it's gotta be?
Your love away from me?
Now I wonder if we had it all

All I know, if you could only see that
California dream that I've been living
Say you'll come, you're leaving New York City
It's just a state of mind, we'll leave it all behind

We walk around, all we hear is
The sound of our lonely heartbeats
And when we dance, all we feel is
The beat of these lonely cities
We walk around, all we hear is
The sound of our lonely heartbeats
And when we dance, all we feel is
The beat of these lonely cities

Broke each other's hearts
Three thousand miles apart
Seems so long now, we watch the summer go

All I know, if you could only see that
California dream that I've been living
Say you'll come, you're leaving New York City
It's just a state of mind, we'll leave it all behind

We walk around, all we hear is
The sound of our lonely heartbeats
And when we dance, all we feel is
The beat of these lonely cities

You and me are further than we should be
Let's escape from the lonely cities
You and me are further than we should be
Break away from the lonely cities

We walk around, all we hear is
The sound of our lonely heartbeats
And when we dance, all we feel is
The beat of these lonely cities
We walk around, all we hear is
The sound of our lonely heartbeats

And when we dance, all we feel is
The beat of these lonely cities

Overall Meaning

The song "Lonely Cities" by Tigertown tells the story of a couple who are physically distant from each other and experiencing the isolation and loneliness of living in different cities. The lyrics begin with the singer questioning why they had to take different paths, and expressing doubt about whether they still want to be together. The chorus describes their experiences of feeling alone in crowded urban centers, and how this loneliness is manifesting even when they dance. The verse goes on to describe the distance between the two, how they have hurt each other's hearts and how they have watched time slip by without spending it together. The pre-chorus reassures the significant other that if only they could see the "California dream that I've been living", they would want to come join the singer and leave their New York City life behind. The song finishes with the singer asking to break free from the "lonely cities" and come back together, to escape from the "lonely cities" they feel like they are living in.

The song is essentially an emotional plea to overcome the distance and reunite with each other. It is a story of love and longing, told through the imagery of bustling cities and lonely hearts.

I wish they would put more songs like this in 2k again. The soundtracks used to be so diverse. Now it’s mostly rap.

NBA 2k21 & 2k22 were the worst ever.
But 2k23 is a major improvement in its gameplay... AND soundtrack.
