Old Devil Moon
Tierney Sutton Lyrics

Something in your eyes I see
Soon begins bewitching me
It's that old devil moon
That you stole from the skies
It's that old devil moon in your eyes
You and you glance make this romance
Stars in the night
Blazing their light
Can't hold a candle
To your razzle-dazzle
You've got me flyin' high and wide
On a magic carpet ride
Full of butterflies inside
Wanna cry, wanna croon
Wanna laugh like a loon
It's that old devil moon in your eyes
Just when I think
I'm free as a dove
Old devil moon
Deep in your eyes
Blinds me with love
The first stanza of the song Old Devil Moon by Tierney Sutton talks about the singer being bewitched by someone. It starts by saying that the singer looks at someone and suddenly sees something in their eyes that bewitches them. It is the old devil moon that can be seen in their eyes. This phrase old devil moon from the skies is a reference to an imaginary moon that has the power to create romance and magic between people. So, the singer is being captivated by the other person because of the romantic and enchanting power of the moon that they possess in their eyes.
In the second stanza of the song, the singer talks about how the romance between the two has become so intense that it is hard to handle. The singer describes this romance as being hotter than the stars that blaze in the night. This suggests that whatever is happening between the two is coming on strong and isn't something that can be easily ignored or dismissed. The phrase “to your razzle-dazzle” is a reference to the dazzling, hypnotic effect that the old devil moon has on the singer, making them lose their sense of control. The singer is carried away in the magic of the moment and feels butterflies inside, wanting to cry, croon, and laugh like a loon.
The last section of the song talks about how the singer thinks they're free as a dove, but the old devil moon deep in the other's eyes blinds them with love. It suggests that the singer is trying to fight off the emotions they’re experiencing, but they keep getting pulled back into the romantic and magical power of the other person’s eyes. This highlights the irresistible nature of love and how it can have hold over a person, making them helpless to the captivating effect of their beloved partner.

I look at you and suddenly
When I gaze at you, out of nowhere,
Something in your eyes I see
I notice a certain something in your eyes,
Soon begins bewitching me
And before I know it, it lures me in,
It's that old devil moon
The culprit of my sudden obsession,
That you stole from the skies
Is the one you snatched from the heavens,
It's that old devil moon in your eyes
That I see when I look into your eyes,
You and your glance make this romance
Your look alone makes our love affair,
Too hot to handle
Impossible to resist,
Stars in the night
Even the stars shining so bright,
Blazing their light
Can't match the intensity,
Can't hold a candle
Of your alluring charm,
To your razzle-dazzle
And your enchanting ways,
You've got me flyin' high and wide
Now, you have me soaring high and wide,
On a magic carpet ride
On a magical journey,
Full of butterflies inside
Filled with excitement and anticipation,
Wanna cry, wanna croon
I'm overwhelmed, feeling both like singing and tearing up,
Wanna laugh like a loon
And sometimes, I feel like breaking into laughter like a wild person,
It's that old devil moon in your eyes
All because of that mysterious, irresistible charm lurking in your eyes,
Just when I think
But sometimes I try to break free,
I'm free as a dove
Feeling liberated, like a bird soaring in the sky,
Old devil moon
But there it is again, that notorious source of my obsession,
Deep in your eyes
That seems to be deeply-rooted within your eyes still,
Blinds me with love
That has the power to captivate me and leave me helpless under its spell of love.
