You know, this version actually makes more sense than the original, because it poses the daughter as the one confronting her father rather than her boyfriend. It seems inappropriate for the guy to rebuke her father immediately after asking for his approval. He'd be in no position to call someone rude after pulling a stunt like that. The woman in this situation is far-better suited to question her own father's judgement than the man who is actively trying to become a part of their lives.
