Stranded
Tilian Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Where nothing is broken
The words never spoken
No overblown reactions
Nothing to tear us apart
I know that you do
You think about it too
It's obvious
You hesitate
Don't you ever wonder why?
Though we never recovered
Victims of a nervous time
Stranded on opposite sides
Now we live this pointless life
Hiding under cover while we destroy each other
Don't you think it's about time
Stranded on opposite sides
Holding onto grudges
Promises broken
Disaster in motion
We focus on each other
Even when we are at arms
I know that you do
You think about it too
It's obvious
The way you run away when I step into any crowded room
You hesitate
Don't you ever wonder why?
Though we never recovered
Victims of a nervous time
Stranded on opposite sides
Now we live this pointless life
Hiding under cover while we destroy each other
Don't you think it's about time
Stranded on opposite sides
You're a juggernaut
And I am Genghis Khan
Just imagine if we were on the same team
You're appropriate
Well I'm the sheltered wine
Can you imagine?
Imagine
Imagine
Don't you ever wonder why?
Though we never recovered
Victims of a nervous time
Stranded on opposite sides
Now we live this pointless life
Hiding under cover while we destroy each other
Don't you think it's about time
Stranded on opposite sides
Don't you ever wonder why?
Though we never recovered
Victims of a nervous time
Stranded on opposite sides
Now we live this pointless life
Hiding under cover while we destroy each other
Don't you think it's about time
Stranded on opposite sides
The song "Stranded" by Tilian is about two people who are still in love but are struggling to be together due to unresolved issues from their past. The lyrics paint a picture of two individuals who are stranded on opposite sides of an emotional divide, unable to move past their hurt and pain. The singer recalls dreams of a perfect world where they can be together without any real or imagined obstacles. However, the reality is quite different, and they struggle to find common ground as they hold on to grudges and broken promises. The chorus repeats the question, "Don't you think it's about time," expressing a desire to move forward and overcome their differences.
The second verse of the song suggests that both parties are aware of each other's feelings, but they are hesitant to act on them due to their nervousness and inability to deal with the emotional baggage which comes with it. The comparison between being on opposite sides and being on the same team metaphorically demonstrates the longing for the two people to come together, to act as one and work through their issues. Tilian's emotive vocals drive home the message of frustration and longing for a relationship that is bound by pain, but still can be reunited.
The song is an emotional tale, and the music itself simulates the sense of emptiness and distance just like the lyrics do. Tilian's alternative pop-rock music style perfectly fits the song's message and brings warmth to the tune. The song is one of the highlights of Tilian's 2018 album, "The Skeptic."

Breaking Light
It's brothers, not lovers. So in that context, I think it's about two really good friends who now can't get along or be in the same room.
