Antonio's Song
Till Brönner Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Antonio lives life's frevo
Antonio prays for truth
Antonio says our friendship
Is a hundred-proof
The vulture that circles Rio
Hangs in this L.A. sky
The blankets they give the Indians
Only make them die

But sing the song
Forgotten for so long
And let the music flow
Like light into the rainbow
We know the dance, we have
We still have the chance
To break these chains and flow
Like light into the rainbow

But sing the song
Forgotten for so long
And let the music flow
Like light into the rainbow
We know the dance, we have
We still have the chance
To break these chains and flow
Like light into the rainbow

Antonio loves the desert
Antonio prays for rain
Antonio knows that pleasure
Is the child of pain
And lost in La Califusa
When most of my hope was gone
Antonio's samba led me to the Amazon

We sing the song
Forgotten for so long
And let the music flow
Like light into the rainbow
We know the dance, we have
We still have the chance

To break these chains and flow
Like light into the rainbow

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Till Brönner's Antonio's Song paint a picture of the life of Antonio, who appears to be a spiritual man who believes in the power of truth and friendship. The mention of the vulture that circles Rio and the blankets given to the Indians evoke a sense of injustice, and perhaps Antonio is seen as a beacon of hope for those who are suffering. The song takes on a universal tone with its call to break free from chains and flow like light into the rainbow, inspiring all to dance to the beat of the music and pursue self-discovery.

Antonio's Song is a tribute to Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim, who wrote some of the most famous and beloved songs of the bossa nova style. Till Brönner's interpretation incorporates elements of bossa nova with jazz and pop sensibilities, creating a unique blend that showcases his versatility as a trumpet player and vocalist. The lyrics were written by Brönner in collaboration with Brazilian musician Ivan Lins, who is also known for his bossa nova inspired compositions.

Beautiful rendition of one my favorite songs sung by the great Michael Franks but the flugel horn took to the edge for me.

@TheHansoost

The Bossa Nova lends itself to a casual vocal style, I think. Till pulls this off very nicely. And then there's his work on the horn. This Dutchman says "Lekker" (Tasty!)
