Too Old to Die Young
Timber Timbre Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

These signs of natural disasters
Predictions of a brutal force
In case you're thinking of escaping
Before you wake, I'll take your horse

No incantation now will save us
Now that we're too old to die young
You may not look inside my mind anymore
But always standard time takes over

I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up
I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up
I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up
I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up now

My eunuch on your mystic parkway
I kept my eyes and arms bereft
Our garden would not grow by flash light
I kept so quiet I went deaf

I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up
I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up
I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up
I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up

I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up
I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up now
I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up
I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up now

You may not look inside my mind anymore
Now you may leave my arms of moss
And it's time we burned our bridges down
So I know I won't come creeping to your cross

I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up
I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up now

I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up
I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up now

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Timber Timbre's "Too Old to Die Young" are a haunting and mysterious collection of phrases that evoke a sense of foreboding and resignation. The song describes a world on the brink of disaster, with the signs of nature's wrath all around. The singer warns that there is no escape from what is coming, and that even those who try to flee will not survive. The idea of being "too old to die young" suggests that death is inevitable and that we must all face it sooner or later. The lyrics go on to describe a sense of detachment and resignation, as if the singer has already accepted their fate and has given up any hope of fighting back.

The second half of the song is even more enigmatic, with phrases like "my eunuch on your mystic parkway" and "our garden would not grow by flashlight." These lines suggest a world of hidden meanings and secret codes, where nothing is what it seems and everything is shrouded in mystery. The final lines of the song suggest a willingness to let go of the past and move on, burning bridges and leaving old loves and relationships behind. The overall effect of the lyrics is one of melancholy and despair, as if the singer is describing a world that has already passed beyond redemption.

These signs of natural disasters
Indications of catastrophic events

Predictions of a brutal force
Forecasts of an intense power

In case you're thinking of escaping
Assuming you plan to flee

Before you wake, I'll take your horse
I will steal your horse while you are still sleeping

No incantation now will save us
No spell or charm can rescue us

Now that we're too old to die young
As we have aged past an early death

You may not look inside my mind anymore
You cannot read my thoughts any longer

But always standard time takes over
Conforming to common time prevails

My eunuch on your mystic parkway
My castrated man on your spiritual route

I kept my eyes and arms bereft
I abstained from looking and reaching out

Our garden would not grow by flash light
Our farm would not cultivate in sudden illumination

I kept so quiet I went deaf
I remained so silent that I became deaf to the noise

And it's time we burned our bridges down
Now, it is necessary for us to demolish our connections

So I know I won't come creeping to your cross
By doing so, I can guarantee that I won't seek refuge from you

I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up
I am relinquishing everything

I'm givin' it, givin' it, givin' it givin' it all up now
I am presently surrendering everything

Love the subtle menace in timber timbre songs

ElleRoni

There's a shiver and a pressure going down my neck, but it never goes 'all out', you know? This fucking album, teasing my cerebral cortex.

Wil Gross

Their music gives me The End of the Fucking World or Welcome To Night Vale vibes for some reason, they just have a vintage feel and a sort of underlying creepiness that I love. Also their lyrics are awesome :)

alexx

 Beautiful album!

Jeff Starkey

Reminds me of the band morphine. I like it! especially the end.
