The Promise
Time Gallery Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Are used to get their wishes heard
A matter of cause
Spenders let their money burn
Never worry never cry
The golden well will never dry
Here in this part of the world
Poverty is just a word
No one ever
Miss anything good in life
Someone clever
Got rich and left the poor behind
The promise will come true
You've waited for so long
We will care for you
The promise will come true
Together we shall make the world
Newspapers every day
Tell about a better way
It's always the same
Nothing ever seem to change
No one can understand
The bad luck of our fellow man
They've realized
Freedom here is just a word
From the outside
We do what we can to help
To fight the inside
We'll make you take the final step
The promise will come true
You've waited for so long
We will care for you
The promise will come true
Together we shall make the world
It's so hard
To see the situation clear
Here we are
Used to deal with minor problems
And time is odd
Broken dreams are what we fear
Face the facts
The country is weak, let the children be strong
We will care for you
The promise will come true
You've waited for so long
But, we will care for you
The promise will come true
You've waited for so long
But, we will care for you
The promise will come true
Together we shall make the world
The lyrics to Time Gallery's song The Promise are a commentary on the effects of capitalism on the world and humanity. The first verse speaks of the industrial world where people's wishes are granted, and money flows freely. The rich get richer, and the poor are left behind, never missing anything good in life. Poverty is just a word, and freedom is just an illusion. The chorus gives hope to the listener that "the promise will come true," and that together they will make the world a better place.
The second verse continues to highlight the dismal state of our world. Newspapers talk about a "better way," but nothing ever seems to change. No one can understand the bad luck of their fellow man, and freedom is still just a word. The bridge speaks to the difficulty of seeing the situation clearly, and the fear of broken dreams. The final chorus reaffirms that the promise will come true, and that they will care for the listener, but it also acknowledges the country's weakness and the need for the children to be strong.
The lyrics in The Promise address the human need for hope and the desire to make the world a better place, while also acknowledging the challenges in doing so. The song's somber melody and lyrics underscore the difficulty and complexity of the promise.

I have both their albums.
I think they are musically and technically professional in a very melodic and for me perfect way.
This song I have sung along at least a 100 times in my car.

I really agree what you say. But i think they sound more like the band "Go West" which also was Time Gallerys biggest influences. I also love their second album. Do you have that album?
