Their debut album - All Eternity - was released in Finland by the end of that year and the band then signed contracts with Nuclear Blast (for Europe) and Pony Canyon (for Japan). In 2000, the band toured Europe together with Dark Tranquillity, Sentenced and In Flames. Epilogue was released in 2001 and was followed by a tour with Lacrimosa.
The album Jaded was released in 2003 and in August of that year, vocalist Jarno Perätalo left the band. He assembled a new band named Tiaga, integrated by former members of To/Die/For. However, in 2004, Jarno Perätalo and the band Tiaga took the name To/Die/For for themselves, releasing the album IV in 2005.

it's all chaos and it's all fears
it's all sin it's the feeling that I'm not alive
I'm afraid to face my fate
misery sorrow and hate
despair lives on lives in everything
despair lives on and on
life's just a pain that I'll go through
it's all pain and it's all tears
it's all chaos and it's all fears
it's all sin it's the feeling that I'm not alive
I'm afraid to face my fate
misery sorrow and hate
despair lives on lives in everything
despair lives on and on lives in everything
life's just a pain that I'll go through
The lyrics to "Lacrimarum" by To/Die/For convey a sense of hopelessness and despair in the face of a world that seems full of pain, tears, chaos, and fear. The singer admits to feeling trapped in a cycle of misery, sorrow, and hate, struggling to find any meaning in life. They confess to being afraid of what the future may hold for them, and feel as though they are not truly alive.
The repetition of the phrase "despair lives on and on" underscores the sense of suffocating hopelessness that permeates the song. The singer seems resigned to the idea that life is nothing but pain, and that they must simply endure it until the end. The bleak outlook presented here echoes the themes of nihilism and existential dread that are often explored in the genre of gothic rock, which To/Die/For are known for.
Overall, the lyrics to "Lacrimarum" paint a picture of a dark, hopeless world that is difficult to bear. The singer struggles to find a reason to keep going in the face of so much pain and despair, ultimately succumbing to the belief that life is simply a never-ending cycle of suffering.
