Hologram
Tobias Regner Lyrics

Change your name.
Change your life.
Go ahead, do what you like.
I don´t care.
I don´t care.

Time is out,
Your credit is up,
You used it all.
Yeah, this will stop right here.
I don´t care.

But you don´t understand.
Well, catch me if you can, yeah

What do you want?
What do you got?
What do you need?
I don´t give a damn!
I´m a hologram, yeah
What do you want?
What do you feel?
What do you need?
I don´t give a damn!
I´m a hologram, hologram.

I heard you talk,
But you and me.
Of all the things that used to be,
But my dear
I don´t care.

Your reaching out your hands.
Well, touch me if you can, yeah

What do you want?
What do you got?
What do you need?
I don´t give a damn!
I´m a hologram, yeah
What do you want?
What do you feel?
What do you need?
I don´t give a damn!
I´m a hologram, hologram.

I remember thinking we belong together.
I told let´s just run
And leave this town forever.
It´s so sad.
You gone bad.
And there´s nothing I can do.

Change your name.
Change your life.
Go ahead, do what you like.
I don´t care.
I don´t care.

What do you want?
What do you got?
What do you need?
I don´t give a damn!
I´m a hologram, yeah
What do you want?
What do you feel?
What do you need?
I don´t give a damn!

I´m a hologram, yeah
Hologram, hologram

Overall Meaning

The song "Hologram" by Tobias Regner talks about detachment, letting go and how one person's actions or choices can affect another person's life. The first two verses, "Change your name. Change your life. Go ahead, do what you like. I don´t care. I don´t care" show a protagonist who is fed up with someone who used up all of their time and credit and is now on their own. The singer seems uninterested in what the other person does, but later in the chorus, it's revealed that they are protecting themselves by becoming a "hologram," an illusion of a person who can't be hurt or touched.

In the bridge, "I heard you talk, but you and me, Of all the things that used to be, But my dear, I don´t care. Your reaching out your hands. Well, touch me if you can, yeah," shows the singer's emotional detachment from the other person as they recall the memories of what once was between them. The singer is physically present but emotionally absent or detached, illustrated by being a hologram. The song overall could represent a breakup or any situation where one person must separate themselves from another.
