Wolfman Jack
Todd Rundgren Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

"Hey baby, you're on a subliminal trip to nowhere.
You better get your trip
Together before you step
In here with us!"

Full moon tonight, everything's all right
Baby come on back to Wolfman Jack
If you want yourself a day man, well I don't mind
You just ditch him when the sun goes down
'Cause the moon shines bright
And everything's all right
When the Wolfman, he creeps into town

Now you maybe want a man who throws 'round his money
But he ain't as cool as Wolfman Jack
And you might want yourself a man
Who don't act so funny
But he ain't your fool like Wolfman Jack

I don't mean to treat you evil
I'm just a good boy gone bad
But if I catch you after dark walking through the park
I'm just liable to do something mad

You maybe think you know what love is about girl
But it's nothing 'til it's Wolfman Jack
And everybody knows, you go round and shout it
That your only thrill is Wolfman Jack

Full moon tonight, everything's all right
Baby come on back to Wolfman Jack
I may miss your loving while I'm on my back
But you can't escape from Wolfman Jack
You can't do this to me

Look me in the eyes baby, now you cut that jive
You know the Wolfman's just about
The number one cat alive

You got my great big eyes spinning 'round in my head
How could you love another man instead?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Todd Rundgren's "Wolfman Jack" refers to spending a night full of excitement and adventure with the famous disc jockey, Wolfman Jack. The song starts with a warning to someone who has lost their way and is on a subconscious journey to nowhere. The singer advises them to get their act together before joining them for a wild, unpredictable ride with the Wolfman.

The chorus of the song refers to the full moon, which is a time when the Wolfman comes out to play. The singer invites the listener to join him and Wolfman Jack for an exhilarating night out, ditching their boring daytime partner. The song suggests that Wolfman Jack is the coolest guy in town and the only one worth spending time with. The singer admits to being a good boy turned bad but implies that the Wolfman's influence is worth embracing.

The last stanza suggests that the singer is jealous of the listener's attraction to someone else. The singer pleads with the listener to look him in the eye and admit that they are in love with the Wolfman. The song expresses the idea that only the Wolfman can provide excitement and true love, and nothing else comes close.

Todd Rundgren does a song about Wolfman Jack also. Be sure to listen to the one with the Wolfman singing on it. ( (Rare Version, Wolfman Jack Vocals)

@noneovyerbusiness4909

Todd must have dug the Motown sound as much as I did when I was a kid.

@user-ut6nu8ey4j

He said he learned from Motown to start lp s with potential 45 s...hence this lp opens with "I saw the light".
