Terry's productions can be described as a varied collection of samples blending the sounds of classic disco, the more introspective Chicago sound pioneered earlier in the decade, plus plenty of hip-hop attitude and sampling piracy.[citation needed]
Much of Todd Terry's early work in the late 1980s is considered a milestone in the development of both progressive and modern deep house. Todd Terry has been responsible for releasing two of the most respected crossover remixes of the house era: "I'll House You" by the Jungle Brothers and "Missing" by Everything But the Girl by the mid 1990s.
Among his fans, Todd Terry is known as Todd the God, God Terry, Todd Godrry, Godd Gerry (or, occasionally, simply God, because he might be a Five Percenter, but this is unconfirmed).
Todd's tracks "Something Goin' On'" and "Keep on Jumpin'" were both UK Top-10 hits as well as Us Hot Dance Music/Club Play #1s, with the vocals provided by Jocelyn Brown and Martha Wash. Freestyle diva Shannon was the featured vocalist on the Top Twenty hit "It's over Love" in 1997.
In 1999 Todd Terry released Resolutions, successfully embracing the then-still avant-garde Drum-n-Bass aestethics.
Terry also has several aliases such as Swan Lake, Orange Lemon, Royal House, Amy Studt, Black Riot, CLS, Masters at Work (although this moniker he gave to Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez & "Little" Louie Vega), Dredd Stock, House of Gypsies, Limelife, Hard House, Tyme Forse, Gypsymen.
Todd Terry became one of the best-paid DJs in both Europe and the United States. He normally performs on four turntables, mostly playing his own tracks.
In October 2004, Weekend by the Todd Terry Project appeared in popular video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, playing on House music radio station SF-UR.
Fly
Todd Terry Lyrics

Doo doo doo-doo
Doo doo doo-doo
Doo doo doo-doo
Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'
Into the future
Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'
I wanna fly like an eagle, to the sea
Fly like an eagle, let my spirit carry me
I wanna fly like an eagle, till I'm free
Fly right into the future
I wanna feed the babies, who can't get enough to eat
Wanna shoe the children, with no shoes on their feet
I wanna house the people, livin' in the street
Oh, yeah there's a solution
I wanna fly like an eagle, to the sea
Fly like an eagle, let my spirit carry me
I wanna fly like an eagle, till I'm free
Fly right into the future
Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'
Into the future
Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'
Into the future, oh
Future
Doo doo doo-doo
Doo doo doo-doo
Doo doo doo-doo
Doo doo doo-doo
I wanna fly like an eagle, to the sea
Fly like an eagle let my spirit carry me
I wanna fly, till I'm free
Fly right into the future
Doo doo doo-doo
Doo doo doo-doo
Doo doo doo-doo
Doo doo doo-doo
Lemme fly like an eagle, to the sea
Fly like an eagle let that spirit carry me
I wanna fly like an eagle
Fly right into the future
Lemme fly like an eagle, to the sea
Fly like an eagle let that spirit carry me
I wanna fly
Fly

The lyrics to Todd Terry's song "Fly" convey a sense of yearning for freedom, hope, and a desire to make a positive impact on the world. The repetitive "Doo doo doo-doo" sections create a rhythmic and hypnotic effect that emphasizes the passage of time, symbolized by the refrain "Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin' into the future." This repetition conveys the relentless progression of time and the inevitability of change.
The chorus expresses a deep longing to soar like an eagle, a symbol of freedom and grace, to transcend limitations and fly towards a better future. The imagery of flying to the sea suggests a journey towards vastness and infinity, where one's spirit can be uplifted and carried to new heights. The singer's aspiration to be free like an eagle embodies a desire for personal liberation and a sense of empowerment.
The verses of the song shift focus towards social issues, such as poverty, hunger, and homelessness, emphasizing the singer's desire to make a positive impact on the world. The lines "Wanna feed the babies, who can't get enough to eat/Wanna shoe the children, with no shoes on their feet" reflect a compassionate and humanitarian outlook, expressing a wish to alleviate suffering and provide for those in need. The singer dreams of housing those living on the streets, highlighting a vision for a more just and equitable society.
The repetition of the chorus reinforces the message of hope and determination, as the singer reaffirms their desire to fly like an eagle and embrace the future with optimism and courage. The final lines of the song, "Fly/ Fly/ Fly," encapsulate a sense of boundless possibility and freedom, urging listeners to transcend limitations and reach for their dreams. Overall, "Fly" by Todd Terry is a poignant anthem that combines themes of personal freedom, social responsibility, and the power of imagination to inspire positive change and a brighter future.
