Grennan was born in Bedford. His father is a builder, and his mother was a teacher. He is of Irish/English origin and a big fan of football and particularly Manchester United. He played football at a young age for the Bedford Park Tigers. He attended St Thomas More Catholic School. His younger brother is an aspiring boxer.
At 18, he was mugged by a group of strangers on the street and was left with four metal plates and screws in his jaw that "still hurt when winter comes". He trained to become a professional footballer. He played for Luton Town for a while, tried for Northampton Town and Aston Villa. But he was later released. He worked briefly at Costa Coffee. He told Music Week: "I was close to playing over in the States but something was telling me not to and obviously it was the music".
His musical beginnings are obscure, but he says he was at a house party where he sang "Seaside" from The Kooks. He didn't remember it, but his friends were impressed and pushed him into performing more. He studied acting at university. Also at age 18, he started doing gigs around London with his acoustic guitar, mainly in small pub appearances for almost three years. After a performance at Finsbury pub, a representative of Insanity Records heard him play and offered a contract. His debut EP, Something in the Water was produced by Charlie Hugall. He had his big break when he was featured in the Chase & Status 2016 single "All Goes Wrong" that was picked as "Hottest Record" on Annie Mac's Radio 1 Show. After that he was invited for an appearance on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge, and a follow up appearance on BBC Two's show Later... with Jools Holland.[5] The song charted in the UK Singles Chart peaking at number 65. It also charted in Scotland and some European charts.
In 2017, he was shortlisted for MTV Brand New Award singing at MTV Showcase at London's Electric Ballroom on 2 February 2017).[7] Also in 2017, he had a cameo appearance in Charli XCX's music video for her song "Boys" alongside many well-known artists and duetted with grime MC Bugzy Malone on "Memory Lane". He performed in Trafalgar Square during the F1 Live in London show in support of Formula One drivers. He started an all UK tour in March 2018 in support of his upcoming album Lighting Matches due for release in July 2018. His song "Found What I've Been Looking For" appears on the FIFA 18 soundtrack and is also used by Sky Sports as the theme song for Super Sunday.

My eyes were plastered over pavement blocks again
Don't you let, don't you let me be
My God told me he's ageing
My mother told me to pack it in
I drink to forget for my sins
So don't, don't cry
Find me another, vinyl of my youth
So hold me together and I'll be the dream
Find me a color I need
Don't let me fall, don't let me forget
Don't let it bother me, yeah
Bother me, yeah
Don't let me fall, don't let me forget
'Cause I'll be laughing with your pain
Dancing with your silhouette
Said I was trouble to the last
But I don't believe in what they say, not again
Won't you go? Won't you throw your stones?
I won't cry, won't cry
Find me a color, find me the truth
Find me another, vinyl of my youth
So hold me together and I'll be the dream
Find me a color I need
Don't let me fall, don't let me forget
Don't let it bother me, yeah
Bother me, yeah
Don't let me fall, don't let me forget
'Cause I'll be laughing with your pain
Dancing with your silhouette
I left with a message to say it's all been done
Outrun the darkest angels before they get you down
So find me a color 'cause I need the truth
Play me a vinyl of you
Don't let me fall, don't let me forget
Don't let it bother me, yeah
Bother me, yeah
Don't let me fall, don't let me forget
'Cause I'll laughing with your pain
Dancing with your silhouette
The song "Silhouette" by Tom Grennan is a heartfelt plea to find hope in difficult times. The opening lines of the song seem to reminisce about a past that was better than the present. The singer seems to be in a state of emotional turmoil, trying to navigate his way out of the difficult situation he's in. He remembers a time when he was carefree and just wandering the streets, oblivious to the problems of the world. However, now he feels trapped and is asking for someone to help him escape.
As the song progresses, the singer asks for someone to help him find the truth, a new direction, and meaning to life. He talks about finding a color or a vinyl record that will take him back to a happier time. He wants someone to hold him together and help him be the dream he once was. Despite his struggles, he doesn't want to cry or give up.
The chorus repeats the message of not letting him fall, forget, or be bothered by the pain of the past. He wants to dance with his silhouette, which could mean he wants to find a way to enjoy life again, possibly without the help of anyone else. The song ends on the singer being empowered to leave with a message of hope that everything that can be done has been done.
Overall, "Silhouette" is a powerful song about overcoming adversity and finding hope in the most challenging times.
