Wailing Stone
Tom Scharpling Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

I could have tamed you, I could have shown
That I could depose you from your loud throne
But in the end, I wasn't good enough
I just showed the gems that I ain't got the stuff

Oh-oh, Wailing Stone!
I tried so hard to fly, but I was thrown
Oh-oh, Wailing Stone!
I gotta tell the gems cause they should know

Have a little, have a little, have a little faith in me!
I just wanted to help
You know, I
Have a little, have a little, have a little expertise!
I know it's not much

But if it could come in handy, I'd wanna be there

I think so highly of you, it just isn't fair
That you have so little faith

Overall Meaning

in me
I've tried my best to prove my worth, to show that I can be trusted and relied upon. I believed that I had the power to tame and dethrone you from your position of authority and dominance. However, despite my efforts, I realized that I wasn't capable enough, and I could only display my own limitations.

The chorus, "Oh-oh, Wailing Stone!", expresses the frustration and disappointment I feel as I tried so hard to rise above, only to be cast down and denied the opportunity to soar. The "Wailing Stone" represents the obstacles and challenges that hinder my progress, causing me to question my abilities and worthiness. I feel the need to inform the gems, perhaps those who doubted me, of my struggles and limitations, as they deserve to know.

In the second verse, I plea for faith and understanding. I ask for just a little faith to be placed in me, acknowledging that I may not have much to offer in terms of experience or expertise. I admit that my desire to help may seem insignificant, but I genuinely want to be there for others in any way possible. I hold a deep admiration and respect for those who question my capabilities, but it hurts to recognize their lack of faith in me.

Overall, the song explores feelings of inadequacy, the desire to prove oneself, and the disappointment that comes with not being able to meet others' expectations. It captures the struggle of wanting to be seen and valued for one's potential, even in the face of doubt and skepticism.
