Toni Watson grew up in Mount Martha on the Mornington Peninsula to the south of Melbourne, in the Australian state of Victoria. Conflicting reports state she was born either in 1993 or in 2000. The artist prefers not to disclose her birth details, "I never denied my age. I never lied about it. I just don't say anything now... Everything is wrong online."
She explained choosing a music career: "One day I was at the park with my family, all my cousins and stuff, in Frankston... We were all just singing a song and my aunty was like 'oh guys, she can actually hold a note.' I think that's the earliest memory of someone actually pointing me out as someone that has an ability to sing. I was probably like 7 years old." The singer-songwriter had learned to play keyboards and drum pads while at secondary school. She started busking in Melbourne, while working in fashion retail at the Universal Store.
In 2009, as Toni Watson, she created a YouTube page and posted a cappella cover versions of songs. She performed local gigs and festivals, including the Let Go festival. Tones was the vocalist for a duo in 2014, and remembered: "I started out singing in small pubs and bars in Mornington, I was singing along to a guitarist until I ended up branching out on my own." She explained her shift to a solo career: "I actually got made redundant from my retail job and with that money I bought an RC300 (loop station) and just started to try to figure it all out." She busked "up and down the east coast with her synthesizers and loop pedal, she has been building a loyal fanbase and captivating crowds with her genre-diverse style."
In September 2017, the singer-songwriter travelled to Byron Bay in the Australian state of New South Wales to try busking there. At an early performance, she met Jackson Walkden-Brown who became her manager about a month later. Her busking success led to a greater commitment to a music career. The artist spent 2018 living between Walkden-Brown's home in the Gold Coast hinterland and in her van in Byron Bay, writing music and busking full-time. Later that year she won the Battle of the Buskers at Buskers by the Creek.

Always been the type to say a prayer and make a plan
I’m a leader who can give the orders or lend a hand
They gon’ hate us if we take a knee or take a stand
I never felt like I was owed a thing by God or man
Always been the type to say a prayer and make a plan
I’m a leader who can give the orders or lend a hand
They gon’ hate us if we take a knee or take a stand
I can do without the fame I just do it for the fam
Started with a dollar bout to pass a hundred grand
Filet mignon was eating tuna from the can
And still do I stay hungry, I get it jumping no bungee
I call plays like Coach Dungee, kill everything like Ted Bundy
I’m cutthroat when that beat go you can only run when I reload
If you miss a payment I repo if you cancer I’m chemo
I can’t have no leech around draining all my powers
I can smell you snakes coming like you skipping showers
Nas told us that the world is ours
This is God’s favor and 10,000 hours
Perfected saw flaws and I corrected OCD
All heat bruh want a feature hope you got your money like ODB
RIP that’s a true legend I don’t take a loss that’s a new lesson
If I ever doubt it’s a few seconds then I look in the mirror like “You legend”
Too many relying on me to come through I can’t see the dream dying
Could never resign don’t see me retiring, my job is inspiring I gotta keep firing
Devils in the scope finger on the trigger
Came a long way from watching Rap City and Tigger
I never felt like I was owed a thing by God or man
Always been the type to say a prayer and make a plan
I’m a leader who can give the orders or lend a hand
They gon’ hate us if we take a knee or take a stand
I never felt like I was owed a thing by God or man
Always been the type to say a prayer and make a plan
I’m a leader who can give the orders or lend a hand
They gon’ hate us if we take a knee or take a stand
I was told at an early age don’t judge a book ‘til you turn the page
My moment came it was worth wait like old Ye I heard ‘em say
Yeah like old Ye I heard ‘em say “this is us” like Sterling K
So we stay on our worst behavior
That Boi Cross and Ike been here like Poltergeist
You never fold when you know your rights that boi cold like polar ice
Roll the dice get the picture nah nigga I get the strap
Like Tommy and Ghost thinking it’s funny boy someone got jokes
Treat this game like a comedy roast feed it to Ike like he under the post
I swear these rappers is doing the most dropping that shit like the sewage is broke
Head shots is all I’m taking when I’m viewing the scope
Telling yourself what you’re doing is dope hanging yourself and I’m giving you rope
Snapping that neck knew it was broke
Put up or shut up I’m back on the come up to get what I’m owed
Man I swear I’m going out of control mind is a weapon I’m bout to unload
Cock it and blow stop drop and niggas will roll it’s fire
What we doing is gold Oscar shit no matter who in the role
I never felt like I was owed a thing by God or man
Always been the type to say a prayer and make a plan
I’m a leader who can give the orders or lend a hand
They gon’ hate us if we take a knee or take a stand
I never felt like I was owed a thing by God or man
Always been the type to say a prayer and make a plan
I’m a leader who can give the orders or lend a hand
They gon’ hate us if we take a knee or take a stand
