Simon Jeffes' Penguin Cafe Orchestra was very good at that. "Organum" is written for a small bagpipe with a drone, but manages to cram in a lot of lovely modulations. "Music for a found harmonium" was written for a harmonium with a stuck key.

When I was fourth grade I was super good at playing trumpet, and I lived on a millitary base (usa) but they stopped playing the morning call or whatever it was called, revielle I think. So I had learned it myself and started playing it myself since I had to get up at the butfuck of dawn for school, eventually had a few neighbors start playing it too, once they started playing it on speakers again though we stopped. Don't need to hear it more than once.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I clicked on this, and I'm so glad it showed up on my home page. This is one of the best pieces of music I've heard in such a long time in an indescribable way. That was fantastic! I taught my daughters that music is all around us. Sometimes it's obvious like the sun and sometimes it scurries about dodging notice such as a whisper but it's always there. Music has been my therapy my entire life. It swings me from day to day. It charges me with atomic energy, enough to get me out of the trenches and when I need it to it swaddles me in soft warm embraces that ferry me to quiet spaces where I can breathe and find myself again. This reminds me when i accidentally heard a janitor at school brushing and cleaning the floor . And the swishing sound she made along the water rhymed so perfectly and unnaturally like a song.

@Kay Bürcky when pianists throw their hands up in the air like that, it’s almost always for show. It’s much easier for accuracy’s sake to keep your hands close to the keys. If you pay close attention to many high-level classical pianists, they’re often not actually slamming their hands down into the piano except for a couple very specific instances— they’re putting their hands on the keys right before they press it and then playing loud. I noticed a wild improvement in how my playing sounded almost as soon as my teacher told me to stop slamming my hands down like that lmao.

Watch someone like Vladimir Horowitz play and you’d notice this immediately. He was (and is) considered one of the best pianists out there yet he looks extremely stoic when playing. He didn’t really show off when playing like many modern pianists (not that I dislike it when they show off— it’s just not something that really matters much).

I can see this as a song at the end of a movie where the character gets in a crash, the music fading in with the car horn fading out, and the events of their life and the movie flashing before their eyes and when the song ends the car horn is replaced by a heart monitor that falls silent

This is about the 6th time I have watched this video in the past two weeks. I find it hilarious, creative, catching and positive. I will never hear a car alarm the same way again. Introducing new and inventive ways that music can be created to my students and this will be one of the videos I will have them watch. Cool man…just so cool!!!

Just like in life, the alarm plays its timeless tune, continuing no matter how we feel about it, our complaints to deafened ears, we have to live on and play our own tune and even when we play ours in symbiotic harmonically synchronicity with life, it goes on like we don't exist with its never ending obnoxious clocklike tune till we can't anymore.
