Some Other Time
Tony Bennett/Bil Evans Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where has the time all gone to
Haven't done half the things we want to
Oh well, we'll catch up some other time

This day was just a token
Too many words are still unspoken
Oh well, we'll catch up some other time
Just when the fun is starting
Comes the time for parting
But, let's just be glad for what we had
And what's to come

There's some much more embracing
Still to be done but time is racing
Oh well, we'll catch up some other time

There's some much more embracing

Still to be done but time is racing
Oh well, we'll catch up some other time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Some Other Time" by Tony Bennett and Bill Evans are a poignant reminder of the transience of life and the need to cherish our moments. The song starts by acknowledging the passing of time and the unrealised dreams and desires that come with it. The line "Haven't done half the things we want to" is a relatable sentiment that encapsulates the feeling of regret when we realise how short life can be. However, the song doesn't dwell on this sadness for too long as it quickly shifts its focus to hopefulness. The next line, "Oh well, we'll catch up some other time," conveys a sense of optimism, suggesting that there is still time to do the things we want to do.

This never left me. Whenever I am confronted with heartbreak subconsciously I hear these artists in this timeless recording. Amazing how music and voices can echo through time. I hope others will discover this song through the years.

Some other time, indeed.

We can only hope the likes of these two legends will cross our path again.

So long, Tony.

Just realized the intro is "Peace Piece." Just a masterpiece of collaboration. Love it so much.

Marvellous to listen to the artistry of a great singer and an incredible jazz pianist - Bill Evans joined by perhaps the greatest the most versatile "jazzy crooner" ( I am quoting the NYTimes) that is the one and only Tony Bennett. He had so much to give, people everywhere on this planet were touched by his style, character, and musicality....!

@ellentroyer3823

If it is possible for this perfect album to have a “best” song, this would be my choice.
