With the band Rainbow, Carey appeared on the studio album Rainbow Rising (1976) and on the live albums On Stage (1977) and Live in Germany (1994). Carey performed the keyboard introduction to "Tarot Woman", the first track on the Rainbow Rising album and the keyboard solo on "A Light in the Black", the last cut on the album.
He had a minor hit in the early 1980s with "I Won't Be Home Tonight", and then a bigger hit in 1984 with "A Fine, Fine Day", which reached #22 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and #1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks charts. A follow-up single, "The First Day of Summer", reached #33 on the Hot 100 in July 1984. Both songs are featured on the album, Some Tough City, which hit #60 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Carey opened for Night Ranger on many dates of their 1984 tour in support of this album. His 1985 follow-up album, Blue Highway, did not score a hit.
He also fronted the science-fiction-themed group Planet P Project (initially called just Planet P), which he used as a vehicle for his solo work. Planet P Project released two albums, Planet P (on Geffen Records) in 1983 and Pink World (on MCA Records) in 1984, for which he wrote the lyrics and music, sang the lead vocals, and played most of the instruments. Session performers on lead guitar, saxophones, programming, and drums on some tracks made up the rest of the group. The first album was released on CD in 1992, retitled Planet P Project.

Show 'em what that floor is for
Three, four, this is great
Five and six and seven and eight
Not walkin', I'm dancing
Not dancin', I'm flying
Shoes get with 'em
Get my move on
Get my groove on
What hitcha, chick-chick boom
Like perfume in the room
Go for glory, that's my story
Grinning, I'm winning I'm a winner: that's My Cologne
I gotta gotta strut my stuff
Too much is not enough
Aroma of a homerun: that's tough
I'm grinning, I'm winning
I'm a winner: that's My Cologne
Mmm
Ooh yeh
One, two, hit the floor
Show 'em what that floor is for
Three, four, this is great
Five and six and seven and eight
What hitcha, chick-chick boom
Like perfume in the room
Go for glory, that's my story
Grinning, I'm winning I'm a winner: that's My Cologne
I gotta gotta strut my stuff
Too much is not enough
Aroma of a homerun: that's tough
I'm grinning, I'm winning
I'm a winner: that's My Cologne
What hitcha, chick-chick boom
Like perfume in the room
Go for glory, that's my story
Grinning, I'm winning I'm a winner: that's My Cologne
I gotta gotta strut my stuff
Too much is not enough
Aroma of a homerun: that's tough
I'm grinning, I'm winning
I'm a winner: that's My Cologne
Yes! Yes! Thatta sweet, sweet smell of success
By now ya mighta guessed the rest
Ya won't yell if I tell of my helluva personal best
You seen me: Huh! I own
Stand out in a crowd like I'm all alone
Doesn't matter on the screen or on ya phone
Ya spot me, got me, caught me in the zone
What hitcha, chick-chick boom
Like perfume in the room
Go for glory, that's my story
Grinning, I'm winning I'm a winner: that's My Cologne
I gotta gotta strut my stuff
Too much is not enough
Aroma of a homerun: that's tough
I'm grinning, I'm winning
I'm a winner: that's My Cologne
The lyrics to Tony Carey's song "My My My" express a sense of confidence and self-assuredness. The repeated lines of "One, two, hit the floor, show 'em what that floor is for" and "Three, four, this is great, five and six and seven and eight" suggest a desire to make a lasting impression and to excel in whatever the singer is doing. The emphasis on dancing and flying rather than walking serves as a metaphor for embracing life and taking risks. The singer is determined to "get my move on" and "choose my rhythm" in order to fully engage with the world.
The refrain of "That's My Cologne" is a play on words, using the idea of a signature fragrance to symbolize the singer's unique essence and success. By comparing their accomplishments to the aroma of a home run and emphasizing that too much is not enough, the singer conveys a sense of ambition and drive. They are constantly striving to be the best and reveling in their victories, with a winning attitude and a mindset of positivity.
Overall, the lyrics of "My My My" celebrate the joy of being in control of one's own destiny and seizing opportunities with confidence and determination.
