Wonderland
Tony Carey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well there's ice out on the highway an hour before the dawn
I guess the whole world's sleepin' and the miles just roll along
I told myself I'd make it back as soon as I could
And I hope you will be waiting there like you said you would

And you know we might have said some things we really didn't mean
We tried to cut the strings cut 'em off clean
I could see how much I hurt you when I packed it up and left
But I saw it in your eyes you thought it might be for the best

[Chorus]
And I feel so down and alone
And I only want to come back home
Take my hand my baby
Tell me I'm still your man, my baby
We'll walk along the sand, my baby
It'll be like wonderland, my baby
Just like wonderland

I'm workin' hard to get you out of my mind
I'll point this car somewhere and I'll drive away the time
And I said hey now I'm free, but I knew that wasn't true
Every woman that I see would just remind me of you

[Chorus]

Why don't we see it when it's there all along
We let a good thing go so wrong
Still want to love you babe as much as I can
I want to hold you in my arms, show you wonderland

Take my hand my baby
Tell me I'm still your man, my baby
We'll walk along the sand, my baby
It'll be like wonderland, my baby
Just like wonderland
Take my hand my baby (just like wonderland)
Tell me I'm still your man, my baby

We'll walk along the sand, my baby
It'll be like wonderland, my baby (just like wonderland)

Overall Meaning

The song "Wonderland" by Tony Carey is all about regret and the desire to return to a place that once felt like home. The first stanza sets the scene with the singer driving alone on an icy highway, reflecting on how they hurt someone they care about by leaving. The chorus reveals the singer's inner turmoil, expressing a longing to return home and be with the person they hurt. The second verse shows the singer attempting to move on and forget the past, but realizing that they cannot because everything reminds them of their lost love. The final lines of the song express the singer's desire to make things right and regain their lover's trust by holding them in their arms and taking them to a place that feels like "wonderland".

This song is not only about longing for home and regretting past actions, but also about the universal human experience of making mistakes in relationships and wanting to make them right. By emphasizing the desire to take responsibility for one's actions and make amends, the song provides hope that it's possible to repair a damaged relationship - even after a long absence.

i'm listening to tonys music now almost 22 years, and now that i'm 26 yrs old, i start to understand why not only the music is touching, but also the lyrics ...

This is another beautiful Tony Carey song.  His songs tell a story and I swear, if you close your eyes and listen to the words and music you can just see the story unfold in your mind.  It's a beautiful talent this man has.  So many people ask why he didn't become "bigger" or why he didn't become an international star....well....he became big enough if you know what I mean.  And I don't mean that disrespectfully at all.  He is a really happy man and he reached enough people that people like us are here today talking about his wonderful music.  That means something.  He touched our souls and how many can say they have done that?  Thanks Tony.

this song is nothing but great! it goes straith into the heart and it works without any overload of emotions or symbols. that's real great art, folks;)
lots of singers failed by trying this, even though their songs became hits anyhow.

yes, of course, tony deserves much more popularity he ever got. a singer/songwriter with his wide, from "cold war kids" (forever in my personally top ten, i can't get enough of this song!) over "burning bridges", "bedtime story" and "west coast summer night" to "wonderland" and "room with a view" and on, and on, and on ... he's really a superstar!
i don't know how it happend, but in my opinion Tony is the most underetimated singer ever!

Why didn't Tony Carey become an international star? He deserves to be one, he is one of the best.
