Promoting violence and ethnic stereotyping despite great visualization

No this video is not promoting violence. They are simply giving a realistic depiction of how most of the early steelbands were started in Trinidad.
In the 1930's when the steelband movement started in Trinidad it was started mostly by poor unemployed Black men referred to as "Bad Johns" in T&T (similar to what Jamaicans would refer to as Rude Boys) who could not afford to buy drums or musical instruments so had to find or steal the material to make their own instruments and then spend many hours practicing popular Calypsos, etc.
Many of the early Panyards in Trinidad were regularly raided by the Police and the "Bad Johns" would have to be prepared to defend themselves, run and hide or be caught and make a jail sentence. Making music and winning the annual music competitions held during the Carnival season was part of the "Bad Johns" way of gaining recognition in addition to making some money.
