To Love Somebody
Tony Wilson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a light
A certain kind of light
That never shone on me
I want my life to be lived with you
Lived with you
There's a way everybody say
To do each and every little thing
But what does it bring
If I ain't got you, ain't got?

You don't know what it's like, baby
You don't know what it's like

To love somebody
To love somebody
The way I love you

In my brain
I see your face again
I know my frame of mind
You ain't got to be so blind
And I'm blind, so, so, so blind
I'm a man
Can't you see what I am?
I live and I breathe for you
But what good does it do
If I ain't got you, ain't got?

You don't know what it's like, baby
You don't know what it's like

To love somebody
To love somebody
The way I love you

You don't know what it's like, baby
You don't know what it's like

To love somebody
To love somebody
The way I love you

You don't know what it's like, baby

You don't know what it's like
To love somebody

Overall Meaning

The song "To Love Somebody" by Tony Wilson is a moving love song that expresses the deep feelings of a man who is blindly in love with someone. The lyrics are filled with passion and longing, as the singer expresses a desire to live his life with the person he loves. The song opens with the line "There's a light, a certain kind of light, that never shone on me", which reflects the idea that the singer's life was incomplete until he met the person he loves. Throughout the song, the singer expresses his feelings of being lost without the person he loves, and how his life is empty without them.

The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "You don't know what it's like, baby, to love somebody" multiple times. This line emphasizes how profound the singer's love is for the person he is addressing. The line "I'm blind, so, so, so blind" expresses how the singer is unable to see anything other than the person he loves. The song conveys a sense of desperation as the singer pleads with the person he loves that they don't know what it's like to love someone the way he loves them.

Nice work. Another Tony Wilson fan here from Wales. EVERY Hot Chocolate fan should buy Tony's music too. A sadly underrated and overlooked talent. The man has soul.

Whoa, the beautiful vocal of Tony Wilson. Makes me nostalgic with fond memories of yesteryears when artistry and talents embedded composed songs.

@denton115

“What Does It Take” is not a TW composition but the writer was a close friend of Tony’s who wrote the song for his wife who only had a short time left. Tony’s vocal interpretation for his friend still brings a lump to my throat.

How could anyone possibly hit dislike for this beautiful song?
Tony Wilson truly has an amazing voice, he was the original Hot Chocolate prime vocalist.
Even the great Errol Brown (RIP) acknowledges Tony as his mentor and vocally superior but for their paymaster Mickie Most preferring Errol to be Hot Chocolate lead vocalist.

And my kinds greetings to Tony. It is indeed a privilege to chat with someone who knows Tony personally. Tell Tony he still has a lot of hardcore fans who appreciated the fantastic music he created from his time with Hot Chocolate all the way to his solo albums.
