Down Beat Magazine entitles him as "...a talismanic West Coast figure." On 'Horse's Dream', his first solo-based guitar recording, Tony Wilson taps into the history of jazz and blues with his compositions. They shift from Leadbelly’s moaning style to Metheny-like combustion. The other side of the album includes incomparable improvisation's that seem to be heading for an unknown target in an unknown land, a la John Fahey or Marc Ribot. Although Horse's Dream is solo-guitar based, it includes appearances by the odd fiddle, fireplace, spoon and kora. This unique album was recorded in a cabin at the Shire on Hornby Island.

Tony Wilson has studied with many acclaimed jazz musicians including Oliver Gannon, Dave Holland, John Abercrombie, Kevin Eubanks and Steve Coleman. Tony won a West Coast Music Award with his band Video Barbeque and released the critically acclaimed ‘Lowest Note’ in 2001, which went on to become a pick of the year in the Globe and Mail. Tony’s current sextet, which includes 5 young Vancouver improvisor’s, is turning heads after recent successful appearances at this year’s Guelph and Vancouver Jazz Festivals. Tony’s compositions have been played by artists as diverse as the NOW Orchestra, The Hard Rubber Orchestra, Myra Melford, Kokoro Dance, Marilyn Crispell, François Houle and Zubot & Dawson. Tony has shared the stage with well know international artists such as Vinny Golia, William Parker, Wilbert de Joode, Gerry Hemingway, Han Bennink, Marilyn Lerner, Toby Delius, Benoit Delbecq & Eric Boeren in the US and Europe.

“What Does It Take” is not a TW composition but the writer was a close friend of Tony’s who wrote the song for his wife who only had a short time left. Tony’s vocal interpretation for his friend still brings a lump to my throat.

How could anyone possibly hit dislike for this beautiful song?
Tony Wilson truly has an amazing voice, he was the original Hot Chocolate prime vocalist.
Even the great Errol Brown (RIP) acknowledges Tony as his mentor and vocally superior but for their paymaster Mickie Most preferring Errol to be Hot Chocolate lead vocalist.

Last time I searched for this artist giving all kind of titles (I like your style, A man of many words, The Politician, etc...) there was nothing popping up. The first time I heard about Tony Wilson was in Austria in the early 80s but I don't think this album was available there. I was involved with some people from Nigeria who had brought that album from Nigeria. Thanks for finally putting this great music on Youtube

If you are a true fan, please go purchase Tony's music from Amazon. Several of his albums are still available in physical CD format. This is truly so fantastic .... never in my wildest dreams, would I have thought I would be writing to someone who worked some closely with Tony Wilson. Wilson was a founding member of "The Flames", "The Souvenirs", "The Soul Brothers. - "The Souvenirs" recorded in 1963 - "Say You Will” which was released on the "R & B" then came "How Many Teardrops” on DECCA ... before he released his first solo recording, “Please Be Faithful”- he also released, "Yes I Do" [B/W “I’m Lost Without You”] ... In 1965 he teamed up with Norman Oliver" and they became, "The Soul Brothers" and released, "I Keep Ringing My Baby".

Hi Tyronne. I can't believe it's was 8 years ago I first left the messages below. I re-untied with Tony about 3 years ago and speak to him every month or so. I have also been reissuing some of our past recordings. We have a 23 track album of re-mastered material with a couple of voice and guitar demos, to be released at the end of this month, then a second album hopefully in April of around 20 fabulous voice and guitar demos, which is the follow up to this one.

Shawn, tell THE Great Musician, Tony Wilson, that he’s only 72 years old, please. He’s not in his 80s as published on FB.
True Fans since the early 1970s know his age.

I can’t find anything current on him. I’s he still alive? He was a very tall gentleman, very humble & a master of songwriting, sessions Musician with impeccable talent & vocals in that wonderful Trinidadian accent.

I was beginning to think I was the only person on earth who appreciated the wonderful music the supremely talented but underrated singer produced. I got almost all of his music on CD but would be happy to find out if there is any of his stuff out there that I don't have. Are you telling the truth. Tell Tony he is greatly missed. Is he planning any new music ? Please ask Tony to release his 2 Bearsville records "I like your style" and "Catch one" on CD. @Kay Zee, I believe the line after "i'd be content with little or next to nothing" is "I will give my life to stop and turn back time". As denton115, the song was written by one of Tony's friends (Ian Taylor-King) for his (ie Ian's) wife.

@LiarLiar101 BTW, there is a web-site in the UK (currently seems down under construction) called goodmusic. co. uk that sells a CD called "Tony Wilson - As Hot as Chocolate" which contains all the songs from "I Like Your Style" plus nearly all the songs from "Catch One". They were selling the CD for some ridiculous low price 4.99 pounds later dropped to 2.99. I bought 2 copies through a friend in the UK. If you are in the UK, check out the web-site in case they still have copies.
