The Patient
Tool爀 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A groan of tedium escapes me
Startling the fearful
Is this a test? It has to be
Otherwise I can't go on
Draining patience, drain vitality
This paranoid, paralyzed vampire act's a little old

But I'm still right here
Giving blood, keeping faith
And I'm still right here

But I'm still right here
Giving blood, keeping faith
And I'm still right here

Wait it out
Gonna wait it out
Be patient (wait it out)

If there were no rewards to reap
No loving embrace to see me through
This tedious path I've chosen here
I certainly would've walked away by now

Gonna wait it out

If there were no desire to heal
The damaged and broken met along
This tedious path I've chosen here
I certainly would've walked away by now

And I still may, I still may

Be patient
Be patient
Be patient

I must keep reminding myself of this
I must keep reminding myself of this
I must keep reminding myself of this
I must keep reminding myself of this

And if there were no rewards to reap
No loving embrace to see me through
This tedious path I've chosen here
I certainly would've walked away by now
And I still may
And I still may
And I still may
And I

Gonna wait it out
Gonna wait it out

Wait it out
Gonna wait it out

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Tool's song "The Patient" are a reflection of a state of mind, a struggle to keep going despite exhaustion and uncertainty. The singer addresses the listener with a groan, indicating a feeling of despair, and wonders if what they are going through is actually a test. The repetition of the phrase "I'm still right here" emphasizes the determination of the singer to persevere even though the "paranoid, paralyzed vampire act's a little old." In other words, the singer is tired of feeling drained of vitality and energy, and is questioning whether the struggle is worth it.

The lyrics touch upon the theme of patience and the importance of waiting things out. The singer urges themselves to "wait it out" and be patient, even though there may not be any immediate rewards or a loving embrace waiting for them. The idea of waiting it out is also tied to the theme of healing and repairing damage. The singer acknowledges that if there were no desire to heal the damaged and broken, they would have walked away from this path by now, but the fact that they are still there shows their commitment to healing and perseverance.

Overall, the lyrics of "The Patient" describe a state of mind that many people can relate to: the struggle to keep going when things seem hopeless. The song encourages patience and tenacity, even when it feels like there's no end to the struggle in sight.

@kidyrain

@yannicheng5213

@ZHUANGISM

@ZHUANGISM

@ellenwu9166

@zcq6516

@YYYLuLu

@doutu4624

@anastasialao3650
