Songs About Me
Trace Adkins Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I met a guy on a red eye
He spotted my guitar
And said, "what do you do?"
I said, "I sing for a living
Country music mixed with a little rock and a little blues"
He said, "I'm sorry but I've never been crazy
'Bout that twang and trains and hillbilly thing
What ever made you want to sing stuff like that?"
I just looked at him and laughed and said

'Cause they're songs about me
And who I am
Songs about loving and living
And good hearted women, family and God
Yeah, they're all just songs about me
Songs about me

So I offered him tickets
I said, "you'll see what I mean
If you show up tonight"
He said, "I doubt you'll change my opinion
I'll be kind of busy, but hey man, I'll try"

Then later on when we finished our songs
About scars and cars and broken hearts
I saw him, he was standing there
Right next to the stage
And he shouted
"Man you were right
It was like you sang those"

Songs about me
And who I am
Songs about loving and living
And good hearted women, family and God
Yeah, they're all just songs about me
Songs about me, yeah

So I'll just keep on singing
'Til I hear the whole world sayin' those are

Songs about me
And who I am
Songs about loving and living
And good hearted women, family and God

Yeah, they're all just songs about me
Songs about me

Overall Meaning

Trace Adkins’s "Songs About Me" is a song about the power of music and how it reflects an artist's personal experiences. It is about a conversation between the singer and a stranger he meets on a red-eye flight. The stranger asks the singer about his profession because he notices that he is carrying a guitar. The singer tells him that he is a singer who blends country music with rock and blues. The stranger does not seem impressed and voices his dislike for the twang and hillbilly thing of the music.

However, the singer responds that his songs are about him and the things he loves, such as good-hearted women, family, and God. The stranger is skeptical but attends the singer's show anyway. His attitude towards the music changes, and he realizes that the songs are not just catchy tunes, but they reflect the feelings and experiences of the singer's life. By the end of the song, the stranger is a fan of the music, and the singer continues to sing because he loves it so much.

I just had the pleasure of seeing Trace live for the first time. There was a vet in the audience, in the front row. The way Trace just paid homage to him, was so moving, it brought me and my daughter to tears. My dad was a vet, we just lost him a little over a year ago, and he always like when the vets were honored for their service. Trace is the real deal for sure and the whole place gave that act of kindness a standing ovation. He has a great show, and rocked out The Ridgefield Playhouse. God Bless you Trace.❤️😘🌹

@HILLBILLYinHELL

Agreed the first time is amazing but you know what it gets better every time you get to see him! We have seen him a few times and it is great every time we get the chance! Glad you enjoyed the first one so much he is very talented..

@barbaradavis8452

Thats the way it should be. Our freedom is not free. They paid the price. And still do. The VAS across the country, should do our Vets better than they do. They hire people from Haiti and they treat our Vets like crap. Get the hell out of our Country.

@dorothystrealy5435

@michaelguessford2029

The BEST version I have ever heard! Trace's interpretation and compassion elevates this song even more and the musicians were spot on.

He sings in the old school way like it was in the 1990s and earlier.

@DEEPERBLU98

Trace Adkins is cool, period. They say there are no more heroes, but I see him as one.
