Rather, the song by time becomes part of a country's or ethnic group's canon of folk songs, usually sung by groups of people performing a custom particular to their culture (ex. pub songs, sea shanties, football anthems, lullabies, children's songs, working songs, dancing tunes etc..).

Countless musicians have performed and re-injected life into traditional songs with examples ranging from Thin Lizzy's (and later Metallica's) Whiskey in a Jar (traditional Irish song) to Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's latest collaboration Among The Gold.

"Traditional" should not be used for the artist name, if the real name of the performing artist or group is known. Rather it should be used for the writer/composer, if they are unknown. The Bible says we are Body, Soul (mind, thoughts, temperament) & Spirit (that part of us that is made in the image of God... that we interpret to be our heart). When you say "singing like this fills my heart with joy" tells me you are sensitive enough to discern your spirit, which is responding to God's music. It is not a huge leap from here to simply ask Jesus for forgiveness, and then to follow Him. You will be amazed to how sensitive you will be to the moving of the Spirit of God in your life after that. God loves you, and it His Spirit that invites you to come in deeper with Him. After living a pretty rough life with working on ranches, rodeoing and drinking I never had much time for anything but that life. Then I met a little lady barrel racer, took her to tame this old wild horse and I got baptized three weeks ago. I sure do like this song.

Second of all, the story I found out about in May of last year (2021)
And this song just reminds me of a certain Brandon who's story touches my heart every day (it's below too) I'm only 16 years old and only accepted Jesus back in October of 2021 but I won't let that stop me from loving this song
There's one person who I always think about when I hear this song especially the "Down to the river to pray" parts

I watched a movie about a football player Brandon Burlsworth who was a walk-on at the University of Arkansas but in 1989 he accepted Jesus at the age of 12 and was baptized in a river near his church, First Assembly Of God and since then he stayed true to Jesus no matter what life brought Brandon's way. In 1999, only 11 days after being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the 1999 draft Brandon was driving home from college to go pick up his mom to take her to church that Wednesday when... he got into a serious car accident and... Unfortunately died due to the impact of said accident, he was only 22,it was devastating news for his family and fans It's now been 23 years since Brandon died but like I said he was a Christian so he's with God, that may not make sense that God didn't prevent Brandon's death, but in 2016 a movie about Brandon's life was released called Greater because on Brandon's tombstone it reads "Our Loss Is Great, But God Is Greater"

This is the anthem of my ancestors. My family settled in the hills of old Virginia turned Kentucky. Listening to the radio as a young child in the late 50s and early 60s on Grandma and Grandpa's farm. I still hear that radio, i still feel that spirit. As a musician i reserve the right to be picky and even though at 64 i am a hard rock guy, this is still dear to me and genius in its simpicity. Music has many sources and inspirations but music that comes from the foundations of the earth?, cannot be overstated in its power💖

It has nothing to do with God, his Son and the reason why his Son gave his life for whoever accepts the fact that he died for atheists sins and bible believers sins .Its a person realizing the truth about the crucifixion and why, and admit he paid the price for me.
I can say the truck in my lane going the wrong way isn't there, then we meet. It's every person's choice. We all have that, It's called free will.

@Shane Robinson Not to you it doesn't. No where in the old testament will you see the word religion. The New Testament is after Jesus dying on the cross, you will see the word, but it's not on a positive note. It questions the person who depends on the creation of their religious belief. I'm not here to teach anyone what is or isn't. Everyone has that choice to believe or not. Then comes death, and the words will be spoken, "I know you not"" or "your name is written in the book of life". btw I'm not getting into a holy war. Everyone hears the truth while alive atleast once. What they do after that is their choice.
