It’s been so many years it’s hard to remember things about the singing groups after The continentals without having some documentation available to spark my memory.

When our producers, who later went to Motown, Smith, and Goldsmith, tried to pull Bill Harris out as a single artist (Danny Boy etc) and then Tommy Beamon out as a single artist (as Beamon Young - The Love I just Lost/Some Day on Arvee) things kind of fell apart. Harris went back to wherever he was from, can’t remember exactly where. Somewhere down South.

Tommy Beamon, Lonnie Rice, me (Bootsie) and Willie king continued to sing together for a while.

Tommy Beamon and I wrote and recorded a few song together as Beamon and Parker I think. By the way Willie King is Clydie King’s brother. Willie King sang lead on Midnight Flyer.

Me an Tommy Beamon wrote Your Love and Ride on (Arvee) I sang lead on Your Love. Tommy sang lead on Ride On. I sang bass.

Tommy Beamon was usually our bass singer. Although he could sing any part - which most of could. But Beamon was best on bass (He’s singing bass on Danny Boy. He also does that great ALL ABOARD opening on Danny Boy.

Tommy Beamon and Lonnie Rice have both passed away. I don’t know about Bill Harris or Willie King.

The original Tramps formed in the Air Force in 1956 were Bootsie, Tommy Beamon, Hines from Oakland, CA can’t remember his first name, Jerry from Newport News, VA can’t remember his last name. And I THINK Bill Harris joined us in 1957. That’s when we really blossomed.

All of us had gospel backgrounds and could sing any part of the harmony but Hines was best at first tenor, Jerry was best at second tenor, I was best at baritone, Beamon was best at bass, Harris was best at lead.

Harris brought the gospel influence to the fore and the harmony really came together.

After that we win every singing competition we entered in the Air Force from 1956 until 1960.

Later we added Charles Brinkley. Charlie and I did a cut together in 1974 for DARNELL RECORDS “PANDER MAN” as Brinkley and Parker.

And I did background on Charlie’s cuts for MUSIC MACHINE “I’ll be what you want me to be” as Fully Guaranteed.

Also IN THE POCKET for the same label.

George Tobin produced.

I’ve had the pleasure to sing with some very talented individuals. Still singing here in Hawai’i.
Aloha.

Tommy Beamon recorded as Beamon Young. His full name was Girton Thomas Beamon we called him G.T. As mentioned before he was from Dallas, TX.

We met in the Air Force in 1956. I was in the chow line at the mess hall at George Air Force Base in Victorville, CA singing TELL THE TRUTH by the 5 ROYALS, Tommy Beamon who was standing right behind me in line joined in singing with me. David(?) Hines who was in line joined in and then Jerry Smalls(?) who was also in line joined in.

The Tramps were basically formed all at once at that moment because we were all fans of the 5 Royals and the minor (gospel) harmony they did so well.

When we met Bill Harris with his heavy gospel background it was a wrap. We had the perfect singing group,

We sang R&B acapella when we traveled around the country doing shows at Air Force bases. But in our free time we mostly sang gospel for our own enjoyment.

I’m close to tears thinking about how much fun we had and how good we sounded doing The Soul Stirrers, Dixie Humming Birds, Highway QCs, Harmonizing Four, etc, etc, etc…

Sitting here by the ocean in Hawai’i and remembering those guys in those times of our youth - none of us were even 20 yet - is GREAT!

But I’ve gotta get home and finish a screenplay I’m working on.

Aloha

Im not sure we did any background on InThe Pocket. I haven’t heard it in awhile.

The background on I’ll be what you want me to be was me (Bootsie) Charles Brinkley and Wendell El.

And although GEORGE TOBIN listed us as Fully Guaranteed I think it was for session reasons because me Wendell and Charlie never performed under that name and never used it. I don’t remember what name the three of us were using. Wendell and Charlie are both deceased. Maybe one of our friends will remember what our name was.

I knew the Bean Bros, Charlie worked with them at one time. Although I never knew them as Fully Guaranteed. George Tobin might be able to clear that up. I just called GEORGE TOBIN got his answering machine, when he calls back. I’ll try to get clarification on what was happening with the fully guaranteed name whether it was just a studio name or an actual group.

My name is James Parker but I’ve been using the nickname Bootsie since I was a kid growing up singing on street corners and in hallway in the Hill District of Pittsburgh, PA in the 50’s. In fact, I wrote a screenplay called DOO WOP that I’m currently shopping about those days.

I sang with a group in Pittsburgh, called the Enchanters and then later formed an acapella group, called the Enchanters in Los Angeles.

Wendell and Charlie were in the group for awhile. Ron Preyer from The Young Hearts sang with us for short stint.
(The Young Hearts were good friends)

Me and James Moore and Bobby Solomon sang together for a minute before I formed the Enchanters and he became a Young Heart.

If I recall correctly, Bobby Solomon became a producer. I do remember Bobby introducing me to Harvey Fuqua of the Moonglows so we could do some background for Harvey I think we sang 10 Commandments of love over the phone to Harvey, and he was suitably impressed nothing ever came of it though .

Later Harvey helped me shop The original version of my screenplay DOO WOP.

The personnel in the a cappella group, THE ENCHANTERS were me (Bootsie) Bass/some lead. Pittsburgh. Morris Beeks first tenor/ some lead Chicago. Vidais Lovett 2nd tenor/some lead Philadelphia. Eric Butler baritone. New Jersey. Anthony (Tony) Gibson lead/ first tenor. Nova Scotia Canada.

And an adjunct member Alan Viera 2nd tenor Honolulu, Hawaii.

We didn’t record anything other than a few commercials, although we were featured on the short-lived, Chevy Chase show.

I’m currently singing with the group here in Honolulu Hawaii called the Fabulous Tradewinds. The personnel are me.(Bootsie) lead 1st tenor. Lawerence

The personnel were on this cut were Bootsie lead, Tommy Beamon, bass, Lonnie Rice first tenor, Willie King second tenor, Bill Harris baritone,

Clydie King never sang with us although she did provide songs such as “I’m So Glad” on which Bill Harris (Continentals) sang lead. Bill also sang lead on Danny Boy (Continentals).
Willie King sang lead on Midnight Flyer (The Tramps)

Everyone but Willie sang together in the Air Force. We changed our name from The Tramps to The Continentals when got discharged in 1960.

Bill Harris was probably the best lead singer I ever sang with. Traveled all over the country for four year sing while in the Air Force. From 1956 to 1960. What a ride.., :)

@bootycalltube Don't worry about being long-winded. I'm fascinated by the details. I'm afraid I'm going to be long winded in my response.
The Fully Guaranteed record on Music Machine was actually credited as Charles Brinkly and Fully Guaranteed on Music Machine 3145 "I'll Be What You Want Me To Be" / "In The Pocket," released in February of 1975. I list "In The Pocket" as not having a group vocal at all. I haven't listened to it for a long time, so you're saying there are background singers on that cut also?
There is a record by Fully Guaranteed on Apt 26014 "We Can Make It Together" / Spinning Aroung" which was released in November of 1972. I thought it was the same group as the Music Machine group. But, I have the personnel as being Robert Bean, James Bean, who later recorded as The Bean Brothers, Johnny Knight and Michael Nicholson. So, based upon your information, it appears that the two groups were completely different. Could you identify the entire background group on the Music Machine record?
I see The Brinkly & Parker record was released on Darnel Records Ltd. out of New York City as Darnell DA-1111 Don't Get Fooled By The "Pander Man" / "Pander Man" (instrumental). The release date is 1974 and the record was produced by George Tobin, produced by L. Macaluso, and written by the same two men. I'm not familiar with the record, but I read that it reached #86 on the Billboard charts. I take it your full name is Bootsie Parker?
I was going to ask if the record on Arvee 573 by Beamon Young - "The Love I Just Lost" / "Someday" released in September of 1959 was really Tommie Beamon from your group. You've already answered that question. Did the rest of the group provide background vocals on those two sides? I've never heard either of the two tracks.
I appreciate your filling in these details. Quite a long gap in time between The Tramps recordings and the Fully Guaranteed record. Anything released in between?

Sorry the ALL ABOARD opening run by Tommy Beamon was on Midnight Flyer. The Tramps - Arvee.

Although he did do some great bass work on Danny Boy.

Very interesting. Rercord collectors have been curious about the fact that there is a very obscure record by The Tramps on Arvee (that doesn't show up on many Arvee listings)--Arvee - AV -1 i'm So Glad / I Love You So, and the recording of "I'm So Glad," written by Clydie King is the same as the release on Eagle by Bill Harris and The Continentals: "I'm So Glad" / "Danny Boy." Thank you for finally revealing what the connection was between the two groups.
Did any of the members record with other groups after Bill Harris & The Continentals?

Paul Riofski

"Not credited, but produced by Fred Smith and Cliff Goldsmith. The Tramps were Los Angeles based and were Beamon Young, Willie King, his sister Norma and Bill Harris." (Source: recordman46, quoted at http://www.45cat.com/record/a570)

Correction: I sang with Bobby Saunders and James Moore not Bobby Solomon. Saunders was an original Young Heart before becoming a producer. Saunders was the Fuqua hookup.

Haven’t thought about this stuff in a while so it take a minute for the memories to coalesce.

Can’t remember if I sang with Preyer before the Young Hearts or The Enchanters. I probably did because in the early days everybody sang with everybody - at parties, in the park, the pool hall or barbershops - trying to find a home for your voice~

Aloha

Sorry I hit send by mistake.

The personnel of the Fabulous Tradewinds here in Hawaii are me (Bootsie) 1st tenor/lead Pittsburgh, PA. Lawrence Bayot 2nd tenor/lead (also the uncle of Bruno Mars who performed with Bruno way back when) Philippines. Mike Pajil baritone/1st tenor/lead Philadelphia, PA.

I’ll reconnect when I hear from George Tobin. Let me know if you need clarification on anything. I’ll try to accommodate to the extent that my memory will allow.

Aloha.
