The band started out as a duo in Bergen in 1992, and after increasing the lineup by three members they released their first album, "Bare Barnet", in 1995.

The 1997 release "Hybel" earned the band a nomination for Best Song ("Kursiv") during the Norwegian Grammy Awards. The song was a huge hit on Norwegian radio.

The band's latest album, "Hammock", was released in 2007, 8 years after the previous album, "Damp". None of these achieved the success of their earlier efforts, although the 2005 single "Fredag" did receive much airplay on Norwegian radio.

Overall Meaning

The first verse of Trang Fødsel's song "Hippie" talks about how the singer was born too late in the year than he wanted to be. He is also newly shaven, and his course is straight. The next line speaks to the trendiness of modern times, where people dress like "frika" and wear clothes that make them feel good. However, the singer feels like he stands off to the side, knowing exactly what he wants.

The chorus speaks to the singer's desire to have been born during the hippie era, where everything was great. He wishes he could have lived in a "gamme" (a traditional Scandinavian hut), foraged for food, lived by a fire, and had a puff or two.
