Songz was born Tremaine Aldon Neverson on November 28, 1984, in Petersburg, Virginia. Raised a military brat, he recognized his vocal abilities at the age of 14. Reluctant to sing, he began performing with encouragement by friends and family. Record producer Troy Taylor discovered Songz during a talent show, which led him to a record contract with Atlantic Records. After graduating from high school, Songz moved to New Jersey to begin his music career.
2004–2006: I Gotta Make It
While recording his debut album, Songz released mixtapes under the alias Prince of Virginia. He made an “answer track” to R. Songz released his second studio album, Trey Day, in October 2007. The album again had only featured guest appearances by Bun B, who appeared on the opening track, and Jim Jones. Production on Songz’s second album had included, Bryan-Michael Cox, R. Kelly, James Harris, Terry Lewis, Andrew Harr, Bernard Freeman, Floyd Hills, alongside Tamir “Nokio” Ruffin, Justin Haro, and M.S. Eriksen. The album debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200, selling more units than his previous album, I Gotta Make It. The second single, “Can’t Help but Wait”, peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, and at number two on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart; it became Songz’s highest charting debut on the Hot 100, and his first-charting R&B single on the R&B charts.[citation needed] “Can’t Help But Wait” charted at number 74 on the Billboard Pop 100 in February 2008. The third single off of “Trey Day”, “Last Time”, peaked on number 69 on the Billboard Hot 100, and at number nine on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Please Return My Call
Trey Songz Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
It's been to long, since I seen your face
Since I smelt the fragrance of your perfume
And I cant get a hold of my self,
No more, I tried to play it cool
But I'm simply breaking breaking breaking down girl
I need you to build me up again girl, build me up again
Now your gone and I'm suppose to find another, no no
Girl I need you to,
Please return my call cause I'm sorry
And I need to hear from you
I was wrong that's why I
Girl I need you to
Please return my call
Promise I regret it all
Only we know what I lost
I just wanna talk
So wherever you are
Please return my call
Now I'd give up anything
For the joy only your smile can bring
Just to see your face come through that door
But until then I'm gone pray some more,
Yeah I'm gone pray some more
Please by the bedside
Cause your the best thing that happened in my life
And I gotta get you back
And I'm dealing with the fact, that I know
I neglected you, expected you to stay forever
Now your gone and I'm suppose to find another oh
Girl I need you to,
Please return my call cause I'm sorry
And I need to hear from you
I was wrong that's why I
Girl I need you to
Please return my call
Promise I regret it all
Only we know what I lost
I just wanna talk
So wherever you are
Please return my call
You know,
Baby I need you to understand that my life is
Is not worth living without you
And I know your mad,
Better yet I know your disappointed
But I promise I'll do better just pick up the phone
Girl I need you to,
Please return my call cause I'm sorry
And I need to hear from you
I was wrong that's why I
Girl I need you to
Please return my call
Promise I regret it all
Only we know what I lost
I just wanna talk
So wherever you are
Please return my call
Girl I need you to please
return my call because the singer is apologizing for his mistakes and wants to make things right with the person he has been neglecting. He talks about how much he misses her voice, face, and fragrance and how he's been trying to play it cool but can't keep it up anymore. He acknowledges that he took her for granted, assuming she would always be there, but now that she's gone, he's lost and can't find another person to fill the void. He's asking her to forgive him and come back into his life, promising to do better and regretting everything that has happened. He simply wants to talk to her, and he's praying that she returns his call.
The lyrics convey a sense of desperation, regret, and longing. They highlight how important it is to give attention to the people we love and appreciate them while they're still present in our lives. The singer realizes that he has made a mistake and wants a chance to make it right. The repeated pleas for the return of the call show his urgent desire to communicate with the person and clear the air.
Overall, the song captures the emotional roller coaster of relationships, and how easy it is to take someone for granted until they are gone. It encourages listeners to value and cherish the people they love and take responsibility for their actions.

Breakups suck bro. Especially when there wasn’t even a good reason behind it... Nothing left to do but play Trey 🤷🏽♂️
