Malagueña
Trio Los Paraguayos Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Qué bonitos ojos tienes
Debajo de esas dos cejas
Debajo de esas dos cejas
Qué bonitos ojos tienes
Ellos me quieren mirar
Pero si tú no los dejas
Pero si tú no los dejas
Ni siquiera parpadear
Malagueña Salerosa
Besar tus labios quisiera
Besar tus labios quisiera
Malagueña Salerosa
Y decirte niña hermosa
Eres linda hechicera
Que eres linda hechicera
Como el candor de una rosa
Si por pobre me desprecias
Yo te concedo razón
Yo te concedo razón
Si por pobre me desprecias
Yo no te ofrezco riquezas
Te ofrezco mi corazón
Te ofrezco mi corazón
A cambio de mi pobreza
Malagueña Salerosa
Besar tus labios quisiera
Besar tus labios quisiera
Malagueña Salerosa
Y decirte niña hermosa
Eres linda hechicera
Que eres linda hechicera

Como el candor de una rosa
Y decirte niña hermosa

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Trio Los Paraguayos's song "Malagueña" speak of a man's admiration for a woman, particularly her beautiful eyes. He wishes to kiss her lips and declare her a beautiful enchantress, offering his heart in exchange for her acceptance. The song continues to express his admiration for her, even if she may reject him for his poverty. The Malagueña itself is a style of Flamenco music from Malaga, Spain, known for its emotional and rhythmic complexity.

The song is a popular folk tune, with various versions and interpretations found throughout Latin America and Spain. The lyrics themselves are believed to have originated in the 1940s, with the melody likely earlier. One interesting fact about the song is that the word "Salerosa" is derived from the Spanish word "salero," meaning charm or grace. It's commonly used in various Latin American countries as a term of endearment for women. Another interesting fact is that the song has been covered by numerous artists, including Chingon (featured in the Kill Bill soundtrack), and even Elvis Presley.

The "Malagueña" is a popular song for instrumentalists to practice improvisation and soloing. The chord progression in the song is a standard in flamenco music, known as the Andalusian cadence, which can be heard in many other flamenco songs. The song's lyrics, despite being a love song, touch upon themes of class and social status, representing a common thread in Latin American music. The Malagueña itself, as a style of flamenco, draws influences from Arab, Jewish, and Andalusian cultures, making it a unique blend of different cultural traditions.

Chords:
The chords to the song are typically played on a guitar and include Em, G, D, A7.

Thank you Dutchgeert for posting.

@vhnassar

I heard this wonderful group sing this song in Beirut Lebanon, in the early sixties or late fifties. I never forgot their very special rendition. I haven't heard them again until now. Seems they have always been there. Amazing. Thanks
